Robert Sanders Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2024.
Robert W. "Bob" Sanders passed away on July 16, 2024, in Fort Myers, Florida, at the age of 82. Born on January 18, 1942, in Burlington, Vermont, Bob was a cherished figure in his community, known for his vibrant personality and generous spirit.

Bob served in the Army from 1960 to 1963, a period during which he demonstrated commendable patriotism and dedication. His military service, including his time spent in the Korean War, was marked by a profound commitment to his country, a trait he carried throughout his life.

Following his military service, Bob embarked on a successful career at IBM in Essex Junction, VT, where he rose from a position on the manufacturing line to become the Executive Project Manager. He was nicknamed "200%" because he always gave 200%. After 30 years at IBM, he ventured into entrepreneurship, co-owning a frozen yogurt shop and supporting his wife Louise's business. Because of his very successful career at IBM, Bob and Louise later enjoyed their early retirement traveling the U.S. in their motorhome then landed in Fort Myers, Florida where they have lived for 24 years.

Bob was a devout member of the First Assembly of God, where he engaged actively in community and spiritual activities. His hobbies included repairing and building small items, often spending hours in his shop working on various projects, especially clocks.

He was a loving husband to Louise, his high school sweetheart, for 63 years. He is survived by his children, Monica Sanders Weir and her spouse Steve, and Eric Sanders and his spouse Kathy. Bob was also a proud grandfather to Marissa Reed, Mariah Hawkins, Shanise Fleming, Lauren Sanders, Stephen Reed, and Robert Sanders, and a great-grandfather to Brantley, Garrison, Lyla, Phoebe, and Tessa. His sister, Carol Gallup, along with numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews, also survive him. Bob was preceded in death by his son, Patrick Jay Sanders.

A memorial service will be held on August 24th at 10:00 AM at Lamoille Valley Grace Brethren Church in Morrisville, VT. A burial of ashes will follow immediately at Mount View Cemetery in Morristown Corners, VT, with a lunch reception at 157 Poker Hill Road, Underhill, VT. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob's life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation - Homeless Veterans Program (t2t.org) in Bob's memory. His legacy of service, both to his country and his community, will be remembered by all who knew him.

Here is a picture of Bobby when he was still healthy enough to dance. Notice his very unique saw cane that he treasured. I miss you every day my dear friend, we had so many laughs over the years.

I didn´t know Robert well - met a couple times. But I know his son, and if your children are your legacy, all is good. Rest in peace.

Friends that feel like family are a gift from God. Thank you for being a bonus grandparent for us in Ft. Myers. We always loved delivering rock mail to you. Our time spent building legos, playing games, and sharing meals are treasures. We loved our time with put-put and the newer version cruising around the community. You always welcomed us with open arms and showed us your love through not only getting invited to the French fry parties but also learning to cut the potatoes. We have so many special memories with you that we will cherish. We love you and will miss you.

Rest peacefully my dear friend, your work here is complete and we are all better for having known you. I will think of you often and miss you each day. Tell Bobby I said hi and enjoy a stiff one with him for me, and maybe some chocolate cake and ice cream also!!!

Worry not about your loving Weez, we will all take good care of her until such time the Lord brings you back together.
