Robert Schlick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 26, 2025.
Robert Allan Schlick, aged 80, passed away on June 23, 2025, at Charter Senior Living in Charlotte, NC. Allan was born on July 3, 1944, and lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his pets, his many friends, and his country. He was a "Marine Corps Brat" and lived in many different places while growing up including Maryland, California, Hawaii, Illinois, and North Carolina. Allan graduated from Smyrna High School in Carteret County, NC in 1963 and furthered his education at East Carolina University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in History. His professional life was extensive within the banking sector, having contributed to multiple institutions including Wachovia Bank in Charlotte, NC, The County Bank in Greenwood, SC, Founders Credit Union in Lancaster, SC, and The Scottish Bank in Charlotte, NC.

Allan served honorably in the Army, a testament to his commitment and patriotism. Allan was extremely proud of his military service. This reflected his dedication and discipline, qualities that he carried into his banking career.

Beyond his professional and military life, Allan was an avid collector of vintage Lionel trains,Case knives, and vintage sports memorabilia. These passions allowed him to connect with fellow enthusiasts and brought him much joy and satisfaction throughout his years.

Allan was a passionate democrat and loved a lively political debate. He believed in helping others whenever and however he could. He loved animals and had many dogs and cats throughout his life. Allan was blessed with many amazing friends who continued to visit and call until the very end of his life. Allan loved the ECU Pirates, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Carolina Panthers. He was a loyal ECU Pirate Club member, and he held season tickets for ECU football for many years. He and his daughter spent many game-day Saturdays driving from Charlotte to Greenville to cheer on the Pirates.

Allan was a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Schlick; brother, Toby Schlick; sister-in-law, Julie Schlick; and his cherished cat, Kat. His parents, Ken and Naomi Schlick, preceded him in death.

A celebration of life gathering to honor Allan's memory will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, where donations made on July 4th will be matched, or to the Humane Society of York County, reflecting his compassion and support for veterans and animals alike.

I´m so sorry to hear of Allan´s passing. We worked together at Wachovia in the 1970s. I fondly remember all our conversations ... we probably spent a few hours a week talking in his office ... but don´t tell anyone we weren´t working! We spoke a few times in the years since then. And reconnected on Facebook. We messaged frequently. I last saw him in the summer of 2022. Our mutual friend Jamie Williams and I had a lovely visit with him at his home. He cooked an entree and we brought the side dishes. He loved showing us his Lionel trains and all his sports memorabilia. And of course, we had a lively discussion about politics. My deepest sympathy to his family.

What a blessing it was for our family to know Alan. He was all heart!

When I was in between jobs, he let me do odd jobs for him. Then proceeded to promote my work on the Baileywick website (his neighborhood).

When our daughter was little, he bought her first Lionel train. When she had to raise funds for Fort Mill Band, he was always one of the first to support her.

He was also an avid sports fan.
Allen and I spent many Monday nights watching the NFL.
Miss you, Alan!! Give Talley a big hug for me.
