Robert Skogman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2016.
Robert (Bob) Wayne Skogman, Jr. passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in San Antonio. He was born to Robert W. Skogman, Sr. and Diane C. Skogman on September 27, 1966 in Minneapolis, MN. Bob began his love of the outdoors while camping with his grandparents, George and DeLain Vargason, during many summers. He also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting as he was growing up in Minnesota. Bob was very athletic playing football and hockey through high school. After graduating from high school, he proudly played goalie for the University of Minnesota his freshman and into his sophomore year until he was sidelined by a serious knee injury. Bob then entered the U. S. Army. He retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class after over twenty-three years of service. His passion for adventure led him to join the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC and later the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) in Fort Campbell, KY. During his military career he served on numerous other military posts in the United States and Europe: including Heilbronn, West Germany; Ft Leavenworth, KS; Stuttgart, Germany; Ft Lewis, WA; Pembroke Pines, FL (US Southern Command); Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX (Army North). For the majority of his career, he proudly served on the staff of General Officers where he was involved in their security and transportation. During his first overseas tour, Bob met and married Joanna M. Throckmorton in Flein, West Germany, on April 23, 1988. During their travels to various states for assignments, they had their first son, Brett, in Kansas City, KS. Joel was born two years later in Stuttgart, Germany. After Bob's retirement from the military, he began working at Lowe's and leading BSA Troop 360 as the Scoutmaster. He joined the Scouts and Scouters on many adventures including two treks to Philmont Scout Ranch. He was proud of all the boys as they grew into young men and advanced in rank, especially those who reached the rank of Eagle Scout. He was most proud of the accomplishments of his own sons. In addition to his Scouting involvement he enjoyed camping, playing golf and watching sports especially the Dallas Cowboys, University of Texas, and NASCAR racing. Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt, Sr were his favorite drivers. Bob is survived by his loving wife Joanna and their two sons Brett and Joel Skogman. He is also survived by his parents, Robert W. Skogman, Sr. and Diane C. Skogman; brother, Derrick Skogman and his wife, Vicki and their daughter Kiara. The family wishes to express their appreciation to their friends for supporting the family during a very difficult time. A special thanks goes to the Medical Teams at SAMMC for the exceptional care and support given both to Bob and his family. MEMORIAL ROSARY WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 19, 2016 7:30 P.M. SHRINE OF ST.
