Robert W. Sopher

SOPHER Robert W. Sopher, age 54, of New York City and formerly of Milford, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Mr. Sopher was born in London, England on July 19, 1955 to Robert Sopher of Milford and the late Catherine Anne Lyons Sopher and was a Milford resident for many years prior to moving to NYC 25 years ago. Robert was a graduate of Jonathan Law High School, Class of 1973 and a graduate of UCONN and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977. He was a bartender for many years at Joe Allen Restaurant and WXOU Bar. Robert was a voice-over artist who made recordings for several major companies which included, SONY, Lincoln Center, IBM, Federal Express, Bristol-Myers-Squibb and ABC Carpet & Home, as well as several others. He loved old movies and always remembered quotes from them. Robert did volunteer work for the In-Touch Network as a reader for the Jewish Guild for the Blind. He had an uncanny talent for doing foreign accents. Robert was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Survivors include his father, Robert Sopher of Milford; two brothers, Marcus J. Sopher of Milford and Daniel A. Sopher and his wife, Lori of New Jersey; a niece, Rachel Catherine Sopher; his former wife, Anne Shapiro of NYC; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday at 9 a.m. in The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. Interment will be in Kingshighway Cemetery, Milford.
