STALEY _ Robert Reginald Robert Reginald Staley of High River, Alberta passed away August 19, 2004 in the High River Hospital following a bravely fought battle with cancer. Robert is survived by three daughters, Susan Staley and Andrea Kabeary (Doug Kabeary) of High River and Roberta Staley of Vancouver; brothers, Allan and Ronald Staley of Saskatchewan; as well as numerous nephews, great-nephews and a niece. Robert is also survived by five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Kristi and Henry Kabeary of High River and Alexander Mulgrew of Vancouver. He is predeceased by his wife, Jessie Grace Staley of High River. Born in Regina, Sask. on September 30, 1924, Robert enlisted in the army in 1943. He fought in Normandy and Belgium, where he was wounded by mortar fire. Upon his release from hospital, Robert joined the Canadian Scottish Regiment. His greatest pride was being part of the liberation of Holland in 1944. Robert was both athletic and scholarly. He achieved art and teaching degrees at the University of British Columbia and University of Calgary, respectively. He played hockey and baseball, although his greatest love was football. Robert was also an accomplished artist, especially in the medium of silkscreen; his works were exhibited across the Prairies. Most of all, Robert was an inspiring art teacher; many of his students won scholarships and achieved national and even international recognition. A Funeral Service with Honour Party will be held at SNODGRASS FUNERAL CHAPEL, High River on Tuesday, August 24 at 2:00 p.m. Robert will be buried at Highwood Cemetery's Field of Honour. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Robert Staley's memory to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 71 Scholarship Program in High River.
