Robert Emory "R.E." Stallard Robert Emory "R.E." Stallard, 80, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, after a brief illness at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va. R.E. was a lifelong resident of Wise, Va., a member of Nash's Chapel Baptist Church, a retired conductor with Norfolk and Southern Railway, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of the Coeburn Masonic Lodge No. 97 AF & AM. After his retirement, he enjoyed transporting vehicles for the local car dealerships with his driving buddies. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and restoring antique cars. He was passionate about his family history and was committed to the preservation and upkeep of the Nash Family Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harper Henry Stallard and Wanda Culbertson Stallard; brothers, Kelson, Banner, Henry, Floyd, Rufus and infant Jimmy; and sisters, Ruth Stallard McConnell and Fern Stallard Robinson. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Audrey Salyer Stallard; three daughters, Donna Ewald and husband, David, of Clintwood, Va., Pam Johnson and husband, Drew, of Wise, and Kimberly Greear and husband, Carl, of Abingdon, Va.,; grandchildren, Hilary Clark, Chad Clark, Josh Ewald, Tyler Ewald, Lindsey Johnson Sartin, Christopher Johnson, Daniel Greear and Emily Greear; great-grandchildren, Ryland, Rose, Raeana, and Reid Smith, Tanner Clark, Kailee Ewald, Gavin Ewald, Emma Sartin and Zoe Sartin; a sister, Ann Horne and husband, Edward, of Wise; sisters-in-law, Lois Stallard of Wise and Margaret Salyer of Sandy Ridge; brother-in-law, Bill Lane of Wabash, Ind.; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Masonic services for Robert Emory Stallard will be conducted by the Coeburn Masonic Lodge No 97 AF & AM at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, and funeral services will follow at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, with Pastor Jamie Mann officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. till time of services at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise. Graveside committal services and military rites being conducted by the local VFW Members and VA National Guard will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, in the Nash Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession. Honorary pallbearers will be the men's Sunday school class of Nash's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Nash's Chapel, P.O. Box 2167, Wise VA 24239, or to Nash Cemetery c/o Debbie Steele 10428 Coeburn Mtn Road Wise, VA. 24293. Sturgill Funeral Home 1621 Norton Road SW, Wise VA 24293 is in charge of arrangements.
