Bob Stevens soared to his heavenly home on January 4, 2015. Dr. Bob was a prolific author and publisher, a professor of history, and an engaging teacher of the Bible. He was born in Elgin, IL, attended Northwestern University, served aboard a naval ship in the Pacific during WWII, and relocated with his dynamic wife Shirley to the sunshine of Tucson AZ in 1950. They joined the First Baptist Church there, growing their faith and often teaching as a team. Bob earned his master's degree at the University of Arizona, and in 1963 his PhD from Cal Berkeley. He taught on the U of A faculty for several years before joining the staff of Bible Study Fellowship. He combined his love of history with his avid interest in the Bible as the Word of God to be applied in everyday life. In 1972 he founded Church Bible Studies, a ministry that blessed thousands of believers in hundreds of churches across the country. For 25 years, CBS produced more than 30 books, along with other original materials for group discussion stimulating spiritual growth. Bob's priorities throughout his adult life were his allegiance to Christ; his devotion to Shirley, his beloved wife of 54 years (who left us in 2002); his 4 children --- Doug (married to Nancy), Kathi (who died in 1997), Michelle Adkins (married to Johnny), and Jerry (married to Debi); his 9 very blessed grandchildren and 11 highly favored great grandchildren; and over the years a teaching career that transformed countless lives. His integrity, upbeat personality, sense of humor, wide range of knowledge and personal encouragement will all be missed. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday morning, Valentine's Day, February 14 (Bob and Shirley's anniversary), at 10 am, at NorthCreek Church in Walnut Creek, where Bob and Shirley were long-time members, and where Bob had served as elder, interim preaching pastor and mid-week Bible teacher.

Bob Stevens was an amazing, loving godly man! He was always smiling and approachable. I was in high school and went to EV Free where he was a pastor. His wife, Shirley, taught the high schoolers sometimes. I remember still her teaching about different religions and what was false about them. Bob is with our Lord and my parents Orv and Emeline Diederich! Love to the whole family!

Bob and Shirley both came to get their hair cut by me until I moved to phx.Az.Both of them I think of often,and still tell of the time I had a pastor at a ev free church come in to get a afo[his hair was very straight]and sat under the hairdyer with these pink rollers in his hair and surprised Shirley for her birthday and boy she was! they will be in my heart forever and my sympathany to the family.,

TO THE DEAR STEVENS FAMILY: We send you our love and prayers and thank you for sharing dear Bob with our family. It was a privilege to study with Bob in Church Bible Studies, and we are so thankful to have many of Bob's writings and books that we will cherish always. We are forever blessed that Bob married us in the chapel at "EV Free" in March 1991, and we are so thankful that our children, David and Steven, were able to meet Bob and visit with him. We cherish the emails, visits, and phone calls that we shared with Bob over the years, and we thank God for the lasting, wonderful memories that Bob leaves with us. We can't wait to see Bob again some day in the presence of Our Lord!
