Robert T. Brennan Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 19, 2024.
Robert T. Brennan Jr. ("Bob"), born on August 6, 1946, in Portland, Maine, passed away peacefully and while with family, on November 4, 2024, in Charleston, South Carolina, following a brief illness.

Bob was a proud alumnus of St. Patrick's Parish School, Cheverus High School, and the University of Southern Maine. A decorated Vietnam veteran, his service was honored with multiple Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Combat Infantryman Badge.

In South Portland, Maine, Bob built a home, family and occupation as a well-known "milkman" and driver with HP Hood & Sons until the early 1990s, when he relocated to Summerville, South Carolina. There, he continued a life of service and warmth while embarking on a fulfilling second career as a teacher and athletics director, positively impacting many young lives.

Bob shared 56 years of marriage with Maureen (Houston) Brennan, filled with love, laughter, and companionship. Together, they raised their son, Shawn, and enjoyed their three grandchildren: Tim, Carly, and Luke.

Known for his vibrant humor, Bob earned the neighborhood role of "Chief Nickname Bestower" in Portland's Libbytown section. A passionate sports enthusiast, he avidly supported the New England Patriots, all Boston franchises, and, especially, the University of South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team.

Bob is survived by his wife Maureen, son Shawn (Michelle Heintz), grandchildren Tim, Carly, and Luke, and siblings Michael of Columbia, NJ, John of Edgecomb, ME, and Mary of Redondo Beach, CA. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, along with a circle of close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert T. Brennan Sr. and Anna T. Brennan (Burke), his brother Peter G. Brennan, sister-in-law Diane, and brother-in-law Phil Callahan.

Bob's legacy of humor, distinction, service and love will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.

Bob started as a great neighbor and became a wonderful and loyal friend. The few times I took on a DIY project he'd be standing in his doorway chin to chest shaking his head. Eventually, he'd come over to assist. After the move to SC, we always enjoyed his visits when he came back to Maine. To Maureen, Shawn, the Brennan family and all of Bob's friends please know we are thinking of you.
