Robert Taylor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 25, 2025.
Robert Lynn "Ziggy" Taylor, 79, passed away on February 22, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana at OBVAMC. Born on April 4, 1945, in El Dorado, Arkansas, he lived a life marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to family and friends.

Following in his father's footsteps, Lynn joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from Bossier High School. He served aboard the U.S.S. Safeguard, a rescue and salvage ship, as an EM during the Vietnam War. His bravery and meritorious service earned him two Bronze Stars and a National Defense Service Medal during his tour of duty. After completing his naval service, Lynn transitioned into a career with the Shreveport Fire Department in May of 1969. After over nearly 27 years of service to the City of Shreveport, he rose through the ranks to retire as a Captain from Fire Station #7 in 1996.

Lynn was known for his remarkable ability to repair/build just about anything-cars, boats, motorcycles, home repairs, or building projects. His skill as a "fixer of all things" was unmatched. He also had a deep appreciation for camaraderie and mastered his love of pranks with his "brothers" at the fire department. His infectious smile and sense of humor made him a cherished friend and colleague.

In his younger years, Lynn found joy in hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycles, and home projects. He was deeply devoted to his family and is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Betsy; children Angela Ann Parr (David), Melissa Lynn Jones (Clay), and Robert Benjamin "Ben" Taylor; grandchildren Nathan Parr, Kelsey Parr Hutchison (Eric), Lauren Jones Smith (Weston), and Adam Jones (Shanna); and great-grandchildren Kade Alexander and Jack Dean Parr; Rowan Lee, Emilia Marie, and Charlie Ann Hutchison; Hadley Claire, Millie Kate, and Remi Blake Jones; and Charlotte Taylor and Lillian Claire Smith. He is also remembered by his two first cousins, Juliann Hannegan and David Biggers, cousins Sarah G. Haynes, Mary Lou "Tootsie" Cullins, and Mike Hannegan, as well as lifelong best friend, Larry Blair.

Lynn was preceded in death by his much cherished and adoring parents Julia Geneva "Jean" and Robert Elmer Taylor; grandparents Julius C. Hux; Garfield and Mabel Hux Sawyer; Harvey Taylor and Dixie Taylor Bassett; as well as his treasured "Aunt Coot" Biggers and Uncle Maxwell Taylor (Millie).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at City Church in Shreveport at 1:00 PM. The church is located at 230 Flournoy Lucas Rd., Shreveport, LA 71106. The service will be officiated by Pastor Eddie Briery and Shreveport Fire Department Chaplain Michael Perser.

Lynn's legacy of service, loyalty to loved ones, and ability to bring laughter into any room will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Uncle Rob, you will be missed beyond measure. You have always been a part of my life. Giving me lessons on car maintenance with my first car. All the Birthday calls with our birthday so close together. The stories of me sleeping between you and Auntie when I was born and Mom being in the hospital. Very much a big man to look up to. Rest easy. Tell Dad I love and miss him so much.Love you!

Robert was like a brother to me. He and my sister were soulmates, and their love burned bright enough for all to see. Our family spent 53 Christmas eve's together. We enjoyed watching our families grow and learn together. May the love that we all shared never stop flowing and may he rest in peace. During this beginning of a new chapter please know that he was loved by all that met him, and he will be missed with a passion that never ends. To the Taylor family, I am praying for your peace and comfort during this challenging time. Love to all-

So sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers for your family. I lived down the street from his family from the time I started 2nd grade. He must have been starting 5th grade. My my, how fast time flies. Only fond memories of Lynn and his parents. Great people. I love Betsy like a sister. None better
