Robert Thomas Doyle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2025.
Robert Thomas "Bubbie" Doyle passed away on October 5, 2008, in the Bronx, New York, at the age of 87. Born on June 9, 1921, also in the Bronx, he lived a full and vibrant life rooted in family, service, and a deep love for sports and community.

Robert was educated in his hometown, attending St. Raymond's grade and high schools before continuing his studies at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. While at Seton Hall, he briefly played baseball with the Pirates, showcasing the athletic talent that would define much of his early life. A gifted athlete, Robert was named All City in baseball and was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1940s-a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport.

During World War II, Robert served honorably as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he began a long and successful career with New York Telephone Company. Starting as a lineman, he steadily rose through the ranks to become a supervisor and eventually took charge of security for the company. His work ethic and leadership were evident throughout his professional journey.

Robert married Marie "Mamie," with whom he shared a loving marriage and raised five children: Patricia, Robert Jr., Kathryn, T. Michael, and Dennis. Though their daughter Kathryn passed away in 1987, her memory remained close to Robert's heart.

He was a devoted grandfather to Michael Doyle of Charleston, South Carolina; Delores and Denise Volpe of Brick, New Jersey; Jennifer Jones Pham; and James "Chris" Jones of Long Beach, New York. He also cherished many nieces and nephews including Diego, Gerald, and Theresa Vaca of New Jersey.

Robert's siblings included his brother Ugene of St. Simon's Island, Georgia-who predeceased him-and his sister Geraldine of Massachusetts.

A man deeply connected to his community and faith, Robert attended Sunday services at St. Helena Church in the Bronx. He gave back generously through coaching CYO basketball games after work-leading teams to victory and earning trophies along the way. His passion for sports extended beyond coaching; he loved watching his sons Bobby and Michael play baseball and basketball. He also taught his son Dennis how to swim and dive-skills that reflected Robert's own lifelong love for swimming.

In his youth, Robert worked at the Bronx Pool and later represented NY Tel Company at the World's Fair during the 1960s. He found joy in simple pleasures: swimming at Jones Beach, traveling to Aruba or Cape May during retirement, cooking meals for his wife Marie in later years, or simply sharing laughter with those around him.

Robert's warmth touched many lives-he loved people deeply and found happiness in being surrounded by family. His legacy lives on through those who knew him best.

May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him.
