Robert Torborg Obituary

Robert Paul Torborg
September 9, 1957 - December 7, 2020
Atwater, California - Forever in our hearts, Robert left us December 7, 2020, peacefully, with his loving daughter by his side. He was born on Sept 9, 1957 in Germany, one of six children born to CMSGT AF (Ret.) Donald and Lorraine Torborg, who preceded him in death.
He was an amazing professional painter by trade, and he used that talent in his travels across states and the globe, including Saudi Arabia and the Philippines. We still appreciate how he could "cut-in" to make perfect lines and his dedication to his craft. Many of us still have his handiwork in our homes which will continue to bring fond memories.
He was a die-hard fan of the MN Vikings, enjoyed NASCAR and loved listening to his extensive collection of music and talking politics with family. He was a loyal friend, he enjoyed barbecuing for people and canning pickles to give as gifts. He had a passion for and enjoyed researching and cataloguing his family history.
Even while dealing with his battle with MDS he maintained his sense of humor, warm smile and kind heart. His only desire was the best for his daughter Melissa and beloved and adored grandchildren Julian Michael and Mya Dee.
In addition to his daughter and grandchildren, he is survived by his sisters (and brothers-in-law): Bev (John), Kathy, Patti, Barbara and Mary (Bobby); and several nieces and nephews. You will forever be missed.
Services will be private, but any stories to share would be appreciated by the family.

I met Robert in 1978 with Ric Piehl. He had a nickname for me, bird, twirly-bird, skybird. We were instant friends. Robert was an amazing painter. For my 50th birthday, he painted my house and when people saw the interior walls, they all remarked with awe how he could cut in a perfect line. Robert lived with me for several years, he organized all my music CD collection and I loved it. We played our songs over and over, we loved our music. We went on many memorable trips like the trip to Riverside, California to see my brother, Doug George, race at Pacific Grove with Jimmie Ann and her mom Joy Ann. We had so much fun. Another trip to my brother Doug's Jersey Mike's sandwich shop, in Rocklin, California. Wow, did we eat some sandwiches! He loved NASCAR, Minnesota Vikings, music, and politics. He especially loved his daughter Melissa and his precious grandchildren. He loved his family, his five sisters and he always said I’m the only guy along with my Dad. We had many great barbecues upon which Robert knew he had to turn my meat into beef jerky! LOL. I miss his sense of humor, his laughter, his smile, him calling me bird. He was just a good man and one of my best friends. He will forever be in my heart. Rest in Peace. Eileen George, aka, Bird.

I had a Tupperware party and the theme was “Bring What You Sleep With In a Bag.” Robert’s girlfriend came with a plus one, and to my surprise it was Robert in a bag! Robert always had a great sense of humor and was known to laugh at himself. Besides that, Robert was a wonderful painter. He brought sunshine- not only to my life but to my house- by painting it yellow, which was the talk of the neighborhood (in a good way.) I think of him every time I pull into the driveway.

Well I was very very lucky to have a friend for over 50 years. And even though I knew this was coming it took a couple of weeks to really hit me that my friend was not going to be there to talk about the football game or the last NASCAR race.
We were more like family as I spent a lot of time with his family, Don, Loraine, Patty, Barbra and little Mary.
They even opened up presents on Christmas Eve like my family always did.
I could go on for the next week on all of the good times we had together and all of them would have people laughing but a lot of them I don't think I should make public.
Even today I will here songs that we grew up listening to and I will stop and remember what we were doing when this song was being played.
Was he perfect? No. But neither was I and that's why we were perfect together.
I will always remember the good times and believe me there were A LOT of them.
And I know we will one day get together to talk about them. In a better place.
And I do know that he is in a much much better place right now and is no longer in pain.
Too all of Robert's sisters and to Melissa he was very proud of his family and his daughter and especially proud of his grandkids.
God bless you all! ❤❤
