Robert Upshaw Obituary
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Gabbert Upshaw; his daughters, Paula C. Franken of Southport, NC and Mary E. Walton of Spotsylvania; sons-in-law, Jeffrey Franken and Timothy Walton; two grandsons, Bryce Harrison and Aidan Harrison; and two granddaughters, Abigail Walton and Catherine Walton.
Robert was born in Springfield, MO to Paul O. Upshaw MD and Ruth E. Day. He graduated Suma Cum Laude from Drury University, Springfield, MO and was awarded a degree in history with an emphasis in foreign language and vocal music. He was employed as news editor of KWTO. Later he was employed with Aetna Life Insurance Company in Hartford, CT, which led to the International Marketing Department and three years in Brussels, Belgium and eventually to the New York City joint office of the Aetna/Assicurazioni Generali. At retirement in 1994 he and Carolyn moved to Albuquerque, NM until 2010 when they moved to VA to be closer to family.
Bob's passions were family, opera, travel, reading and baseball. His employment enabled many wonderful travel opportunities and the use of the many languages in which he was fluent. Wherever he went he found opera.
A private service for family will be held.
