ROBERT VAN KAMPEN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 13, 2024.
In loving memory of Robert "Bob" Jay Van Kampen, who peacefully passed away on April 6, 2024, at the age of 96, in Commerce, Michigan. Born on May 31, 1927, in Detroit. Bob's life was one of remarkable experiences and cherished moments and helping his family and friends.

Bob's spirit was marked by his dedicated service in the U.S. Army during WWII, stationed at Los Alamos N.M. Atomic Base. Bob took great pride in supporting his two sons as they achieved the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout.

Bob attended Cass Tech High School in Detroit, MI, and went on to receive a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering at Trine University and was a Registered Professional Engineer. Later starting the Robert Van Kampen Construction Company.

Bob's life was illuminated by his many talents and passions. He enjoyed dancing late into life, golf, ripping on his many harmonicas, singing in Church choirs and barbershop performances. Bob attended many churches in Florida and John Monteith Presbyterian Church in Detroit.

Bob's journey was made brighter by his beloved wife, Clara "Frances" Van Kampen (Hyatt) a talented painter and pianist, who passed away 1998. Together, they formed memories that endured through the ages and Bob now joins her, his loving parents, Gezina and Henry Van Kampen and seven siblings in eternal peace.

Bob's legacy lives on through the hearts of those he leaves behind: his two sons, Robert Van Kampen (Sharon) and Douglas Van Kampen (Pamela); his grandchildren, Scott Van Kampen (Carla) and Sarah Jasinski (Kyle); and four great-grandchildren, Connor, Levi, Paige, and Claire.

To honor Bob's memory, a Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held in Cadillac, Michigan on Saturday May 25th with a golf outing on May 26th. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Bob's honor to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the Michigan Humane Society.
