Mr. VanderWeele passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at his Arizona home. He was born March 18, 1929 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Abraham and Anna (Haan) VanderWeele. Bo was employed by James River Co. for 47 ½ years until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of The Salvation Army, and a gigantic University of Michigan Wolverine fan. On November 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Geneva Brown, who preceded him in death on October 3, 1980. On March 8, 1985, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou (Briggs) Standish in Grand Rapids, who survives. Also surviving are 5 children, Richard VanderWeele of Rolling Meadows, IL, Thomas (Sue) VanderWeele of Cincinnati, OH, Daniel (Linda) VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Timothy (Jane) VanderWeele of Kalamazoo and Susan (Craig) Burrows of Kalamazoo; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Donald (Gertrude) VanderWeele of Missouri; 1 sister, Dorothy (Ron) Yeo of Kalamazoo; 4 step-children, Kathleen (Bill) Clark of Butler, OH, Allen (Jenni) Standish of Vicksburg, Christine Yearry of Vicksburg, and Scott Standish of West Columbia, SC; 12 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. VanderWeele will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street , with Robert's son Major Richard VanderWeele officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Monday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to the University of Michigan Marching Band or the American Diabetes Association.
