Robert L. "Pete" Van Fleet 81, of Dalton died Tuesday morning at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton.
Born in Scranton on July 21, 1941, the son of the late Robert and Betty Williams Van Fleet. His first and only true love and wife of 56 years is the former Carol Swaboski.
He owned and operated Van Fleet Well Drilling. He was active in the Dalton little league in the '70s and '80s. He was a former Lackawanna Trail School Board Director. He was president of the Dalton Lions Club. He enjoyed helping run the Dalton Lions wrestling tournament, running their annual golf tournament and making his famous potato pancakes at the Dalton Carnival. He was a member of the Scranton Canoe Club. Always quick with a joke or one liner, he enjoyed taking Carol out for Friday dinners with Ed and Darlene, Saturday morning breakfast club with the guys, visiting with his longtime friends Terry and Carol Farr. He also cherished his adventures with Hiza and Charlie, which almost always included a hilarious story.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda, and his brother, Willard.
He is survived by three sons, Brian (Tammy), Brendan (Corinne) and Brett, all of Dalton; brother, Barry (Linda); six grandchildren that he adored, Alexis, Tyler, Emily, Nick, Bryce and Nate, four great-grandchildren, Harper, Luke, William and Luna; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Blessing Service will be Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 4 p.m. from Anthony P. Litwin Jr. Funeral Homes, Inc., 33 Reynolds St., Factoryville with the Rev. Arbogaste Satoun presiding.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. Interment at Delavan Farm Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dalton Lions Club, 2020 Maple Road, Dalton, PA 18414, or Dalton Fire Co., P.O. Box 684, Dalton, PA 18414.

Pete was a. Friend for over 40 years. He had a great personality and sense of humor. He and Carol were a wonderful couple. I was blessed having him in my life and being able to call him my friend. Pete loved his family and was a hard worker. He was respected by everyone who knew him.
