Robert David Vogt, age 85, of Mount Vernon passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born on April 24, 1926 in Davy, WV, son of the late John F. and Lena (Williams) Vogt.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Verna L. (Weaver) Vogt; daughters, Zandra L. (Jak) Smith, Rhonda S. (Charles) Gherman, grandchildren, Sibley L. Poland, A.J. Smith, Samantha Gherman, and Rob Gherman; sisters, Pauline Templeman of Hendersonville, NC and Shirley (Richard) Schmachtenberg of Maryland; brother, William (June) Vogt of Hendersonville, NC; nephews, Steve (Pam) Vogt of Mount Vernon and Jeff (Belinda) Vogt of Coolville; cousins, Doris (Vogt) Parks of Marion, VA, Margaret (Williams) Graves of Marion, VA, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonda; brothers, Carl and J. Floyd Vogt.

Robert was a member of the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce and the Mount Vernon Toastmasters, where he served as a former District Governor and held numerous local offices. He was a life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Ripley Camp 1535, Worthington, OH. Robert was one of the living grandchildren of a Confederate Soldier. He was also a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Hill Church in Mount Vernon. He was an Army Veteran of WWII serving in the Philippines and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Before WWII, Robert attended the Mount Vernon Academy. Following WWII, he attended the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY; and the Columbus College of Art and Design. Robert joined Printing Art Press in 1948 and later became the owner and President of the company until his retirement.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon. The family will then receive friends from 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 until the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Fred Shoemaker will officiate. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
