Robert Walton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 13, 2022.
Robert Prentiss Walton of Cold Spring Harbor, NY, died peacefully in hospice on October 6, 2022, surrounded by family. He was 84. Bob was born in Cleveland, OH, raised in Weston, CT, and graduated from Yale and UVA law school. He served as a US Attorney for the Southern District of NY, and as senior counsel for NYU Office of Legal Counsel. He was a serious collector of Civil War items of various intriguing sorts and the details of the history behind them. A life-long DIYer, he had the skills and desire to fix anything he could himself. He was an appreciator of classic cars and spent thousands of hours restoring his own vintage vehicle. He enjoyed sailing with his family on their wooden boat for 22 years, skiing with his children, playing with his dogs, and being "Gpa" to his beloved grandchildren. He was a man of honor with a gentle, playful soul.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years Terry, his children Jenifer (Tim) and Robert (Amy), sister Elizabeth (Dan), and his five grandchildren Matthew, Graham, Jake, Paige, and Brooke. Affectionate uncle to Hilary, Trevor, Laura, Consie, Ted, Charles, Mariamne, Robert, Elizabeth. Donations to Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury, VT (www.dogmt.com) are welcome. A memorial service is planned for St. John's Church in Cold Spring Harbor.

Remembering the fun we had back in the day when you still lived in the Heights....and all those years of being friends! Our daughters still friends, just like us. Bob was such a terrific guy, and we will miss him for a looooong time! Love and hugs, Lee
