Robert W. “Toby” Winkler, 89, of Eagle Lake, died Friday, November 2, 2007 at Immanuel-St. Joseph’s Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday, November 5 at Landkamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Children International or World Vision. Robert was born on October 21, 1918 to John and Frances (Schmidt) Winkler in Mankato. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul School. Robert served in the Merchant Marines served as a Class “A” welder. In 1946 he married Anna Mae Fechner in Duluth. Robert was the owner operator of Winkler’s Standard Service in Eagle Lake for many years. He also worked for Chicago Northwest Railroad. In addition he served on the Eagle Lake Village Council, former Chief of Police and superintendent of the Eagle Lake Sewer and Water Division. He contributed a lot of time, effort and financial support to the development of the Village of Eagle Lake. Robert enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, playing cards, auctions, and traveling. Robert is survived by his children: Robert Winkler (Audrey) of Eagle Lake, Mary Richter (Allan), Bill Winkler (Pam), Julie Wakefield (William) all of Mankato Mary Jane Winkler of Deerfield WI; grandchildren: Colby Winkler (Melissa), Angela Sohre, Rebecca Richter, Adam Richter (Amber), Sarah Winkler (special friend Matt Michels), Jacob Winkler (special friend Amanda Adams) Caleb Winkler (special friend Dana Hansen), Joshua Wakefield (special friend Rebecca Reisdorf), Christopher Wakefield (special friend Cami Bellig), Kimberly Otworth of Deerfield, WI; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Richard; 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
