ROBERT ZABRANSKY Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 15, 2010.
Robert Frank "Bob" Zabransky, Ph.D. A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Frank "Bob" Zabransky, Ph.D. will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at St. Anne Church, 120 N. Ela Street (corner of Franklin and Ela Streets), Barrington, where he will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Father Tom Bishop will officiate. Interment will be private in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington. Born March 15, 1941, he made his final journey to the Lord on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010. Dr. Bob held a Ph.D. in chemical engineering. He was credited with numerous patents in natural gas research. Robert was also a professor at both UIC and IIT. Robert was a past president of the Chicago Chapter AIChE, an Eagle Scout, an AKC field trial judge and an avid sportsman who especially enjoyed training, handling and competing with his bird dogs. Robert's outgoing personality, exceptional wit and quick mind made him a welcome and popular addition to professional and social activities. He especially enjoyed his a.m. coffee group at Ambrosia. He will be greatly missed for many reasons - but especially for his support and encouragement to teens regarding achieving educational excellence. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Bernadette; his sister, Carol Koslowski; mother-in-law, Bernadette Bell; sisters-in-law, Roberta Zabransky and Eileen Haynes; 10 nieces and nephews; 12 grand nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends; and his beloved hunting buddies, Chief and Livvy. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois or the University of Illinois Veterinarian College, would be appreciated. Visit www.davenportfamily.com where online condolences can be left for his family or for information call 847-381-3411.

Bob left the world a better place than he found it.

After all these years, I remember Bob's enthusiastic laughter. It could have been at a simple joke, at the expense of one of the dogs, or even at himself. You always knew when Bob was in the room. I'm sorry the old family gatherings went by the wayside.

Bob was a great co-worker and an all around nice guy. His love of animals was evidence of the great human being he was. He will be missed.
