Roberta Cox died Friday, September 13, 2002, at the John Knox Care Center in Lee's Summit, MO, following a brief illness. Roberta was born on August 30, 1912, in Springfield, MO, was 90 years of age at her death, and had resided at John Knox Village in Lee's Summit. Roberta spent her entire career in elementary education teaching in various locations and retiring from the Springfield, MO, Public Schools. She was the first Director of Project Head Start in Springfield in the 1960s. She received her B.S. Degree from Southwest Missouri State University and her M.A. Degree in Education from Missouri University in Columbia. Roberta was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert Merle Cox Sr., and is survived by two sons, Robert M. Cox Jr. of Frontenac, MO, and John C. Cox of Columbia, MO, four grandchildren, Robert M. Cox III of Chicago, IL, Steven W. Cox of St. Louis, MO, Stephanie Ellen Cox of Austin, TX, and Carolyn L. Cox of Chicago, IL. A memorial service for family and friends is planned for Sunday, September 22, at John Knox Village in Lee's Summit. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Knox Village Foundation, 400 N.W.
