Roberta Maietta Obituary

Roberta Louise Maietta, 78
SOUTH PORTLAND -- Roberta Louise Maietta, 78, of South Portland, died on Aug. 19, 2014, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with her loving family by her side.
She was born on April 21, 1936, in Portland, the daughter of Robert L. and Ruth Cookson Tinsman. Roberta was educated in local schools and was a 1954 graduate of South Portland High School.
She married Louis B. Maietta Sr. on Nov. 13, 1954, at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Portland. They began raising their family of eight boys. Not only did she have eight sons, she was the oldest sibling and had six brothers.
Roberta was a communicant of Holy Cross Church.
Bobbi was a stay home mom with eight sons while Louie worked two and three jobs to provide for the family. In 1968 Bobbi and Louie Sr. started Maietta Construction, Inc. of which she was VP and treasurer. She hand wrote invoices and weekly payroll well into the 1980s. Their business started out with six-eight employees and grew to 50 employees before handing over the billing and payroll to computers. By the early 90s the crew grew to nearly 150 employees, who were thought of and treated as family.
She enjoyed spending her summers at camp on Thomas Pond in Raymond with her husband, children and extended family. In 1975 they started taking family trips to Florida. Eventually they began spending the winter months at their vacation home in Kissimmee, Fla. Her children would visit throughout the winter with their family and friends. Some of her most incredible memories were trips to Las Vegas. Louie and Bobbi were fortunate to meet Mickey Rosenberg of Caesars Palace, who became a great family friend. They were treated to things like front row seats at Dean Martin's show, Bobbi became part of the show by handing him a drink when he asked her if she had one he could have! Before handing it to him, she asked if he had an ID and totally took him by surprise having the entire audience laughing. They experienced cocktail parties with Drew Carey, The Beach Boys and backstage with Celine Dion, to mention a few. She spent time with her entire family each Sunday having huge dinners. Her grandchildren enjoyed helping

their grandparents prepare the meals. She also loved her three Yorkshire dogs.
Roberta was predeceased by her parents; a brother Dennis; son Gary; and her husband Louis on Jan. 25, 2014. She is survived by her sons, Mike Sr. and Cathie, Louie Jr. and Jane, Vinny and Charlene, Tommy and Sara, Jimmy and Sherrie, Robbie and Tina, Neil and Kathy; grandchildren, Mike Jr. and Dawn, Maria, Angie and Mike Sanphy, Sandi and Matt Marks, Jenna and Dave Tremberth, Justin, Adam and Gary, Jamie, Megan, Becky and Emily, Ashley and Jessica, Danny and Neil; great-grandchildren, Jaelynne, Natasha, Morgan, Alyssa, Hannah, Dominic, Dylan, Alex, Abby, Aidan, Mila, Gianna, Maliyah, Anthony and Callie; daughter-in-law Pam Byram and her husband Joey; a very special sister-in-law, Mary Dulac and her husband Richard; brothers, Doug, Greg, Richard, Thomas, and Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like thank the incredible men and women at the South Portland Fire & Rescue Department; Cindy, Ann and Marie at Hospice of Southern Maine, as well as Jackie, Larry and the entire staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Her sons would like to especially thank their wives, children, and grandchildren for the round the clock care allowing Mom to be at home, until going to Gosnell.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday at Conroy- Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.
