Roberta Romano Obituary
AGE: 56 • Vineland
Roberta E. (Riker) Romano, age 56 of Vineland, NJ, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 17, 2017 surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with melanoma.
Roberta was born in Point Pleasant, NJ to Robert and Ruth (Bauer) Riker and was raised in Brick, NJ, where she graduated from Brick Township High School in 1978. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Seton Hall University in 1982 and moved to Vineland after marrying Bryan in October 1983. Roberta was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Vineland, where she taught Sunday School for many years and served on countless committees. She was also a member of the Vineland High School All Sports Booster Club and past member of the Red and Gray Gridiron Club. She enjoyed gardening, all forms of exercise, including morning walks with neighborhood friends, yoga and Pilates classes, and always loved taking advantage of a sunny day at the beach. She was a dedicated member of her Bible Study group and the Cross and Crumbs fellowship. Above all, she loved to support her sons in every one of their academic and athletic pursuits. Roberta's loving heart, quick wit, selfless nature, and radiant smile were cherished by friends of all ages, from 1 to 101. During her 4-year fight against cancer, she was known among her doctors, nurses, and fellow patients as having an infectious optimism and unmatched positive outlook to bring sunshine to everyone's day. Roberta's family and friends could never have hoped to have a more wonderful person in our lives and we hope to bless others in the same way she blessed us.
In addition to her parents, Roberta is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Bryan D. Romano of Vineland; her 4 beloved sons, Ross B. Romano and wife Janet Choi Romano of Arlington, VA; Rex D. Romano of Vineland; Frank R. Romano of Atlanta, GA; and Robert "Bobby" C. Romano of Vineland. She also leaves behind her 2 sisters, Rosalind Dombrowski, and Rhonda Munden and husband Bobby, all of Wellington, FL; her father- and mother-in-law, Frank and Vivienne Romano of Vero Beach, FL and Sea Isle City, NJ; brother- and sister-in-law Chris and Barbara Romano of Landisville; along with 7 nieces and a nephew.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 25th at 12:00 pm at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2384 E. Landis Ave. Vineland. The viewing will be on Thursday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland, and again on Friday morning from 11:00 - 12:00 pm at the CHURCH. Interment will be private.
In recognition of Roberta's life and battle with cancer, her family recommends that everyone educates themselves on the risk factors and causes of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2384 E. Landis Ave., Vineland, NJ 08361.

I feel so bad reading this. I had no idea that Roberta had passed. She was such
a sweet, genuine, lovely person. She had an infectious smile. I haven't seen her in years. Life is so short. I will always have fond memories of her. God bless her family that had to suffer this enormous loss. <3

I am so very sad to see that Roberta has passed away. I was a very close childhood friend growing up in Brick. I have tried to find her on FB etc over the years without any luck. The last time we saw each other was our 10 year reunion. Our 40th is planned for this fall and I so hoped to reconnect with Roberta and reminisce about old times. Please accept my sincerest condolences. I am sure she is terribly missed by her all her family and friends.

I'm the GM of Larrys II and Roberta came in all the time over the last 6 years.. She was always much more cheerful then regular people and enjoyed, what she called, a fun drink from Larrys II Cafe. Her facial expressions and witty personality made her such and endearing person. She and I chatted extensively and I was very aware of her illness. She so wanted to live. She wanted to grow old with her husband and watch her sons grow into old men too. Then she'd laugh and say, "imgine that". It makes me sad that she got cheated out of so many years of life when so many people don't realize how lucky they are. But her life was true quality the way she lived and loved it.. She and I were always in shoprite at the same time week after week. We always laughed about that,because I have a husband and 3 sons and she had the same plus one. We knew there were hungry mouths to feed at home and we shared the fact that no amount of food shopping was ever enough. God she loved those kids and her husband. Her family and friends were everything to her. I'll miss seeing her. Running into Roberta was like walking into a rainbow..
She was beautiful in every way. Soo so sad for you're family.

I did not know Roberta but her family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers. I just lost my husband on August 8th from melanoma too. He was only 54. He had a long and hard five year battle with it. I have had to research melanoma to find out information about it just so that I can understand what my husband or anyone has to go through when they have this type of cancer. Please make sure that you go to your doctor if you have any moles or skin issues that change shape, turn color, or bleed. I am very saddened by the passing of my husband and I am very sad about your loss of Roberta. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
