Rocco Testa Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2020.
We celebrate the life of Rocco Testa, beloved husband, papa, nonno, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

Rocco, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at home. Rocco was born in Suio, Italy on December 10, 1934 and moved to Union City, New Jersey in 1961. He and his family then moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1975.

Rocco was a barber from the age of 11 to just a few months ago. Over his lifetime, he owned and worked at over 10 different barber shops. He treated all of his customers like they were family. In his spare time, he could always be found making sure his garden was perfect.

He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine (Fallone) Testa, and their three children, Pasquale & Rossana Testa, Anna & Robert Sparks and Anthony & Anna Testa. Nonno adored his five grandchildren, Desirée, Nicholas, Valentina, Joseph and Rocco. He was the cherished brother of Pasqualina Testa-Ciorra and the late Linda Testa-Casale and Giusesppe Testa.

Visitation will be at Landmark Funeral Home on Thursday, July 2nd from 5-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Nativity Catholic Church in Hollywood, Florida on Friday, July 3rd at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to American Diabetes Association, diabetes.org/donate in his honor.

It´s truly a real statement of dear Rocco, that, even though the years pass, the wonderful memories of him remain strong and happy. Thinking of him brings a smile always.

Time passes and yet - the loss of our dear Rocco remains so deep. So many things are missed- his smile, his humor, his kindness, and much more. I pray he and James are together. Sending love to Geri and his wonderful family. We were blessed to have him in our lives. Faye Polito

We miss you Rocco! Our family is going to Italy this summer and we will toast in your honor! I hadn't had a professional haircut since you last cut it and you may me mortified by my current hair style, but then again no one could live up to your talents. All the best from the Kramm family, Love, Justin

Rocco was a great bartender and friend. He was proud of his family and always had great stories. I would often look at the retired comb that he had framed at his station (from 1949-1992). I am thankful that he didn't retire because I met him around '92. He cut my hair for the first time for a high school dance. I remember when I was in my late-20s, he told me "Justin, you're losing your hair. You need to meet a girl quick and get married." Ha! We shared many conversations in English (and by broken Italian). We will miss him and are thankful to have known him.

Always a pleasure to be with Rocco - 30 years!

Geri and family, I met Rocco 30 years ago and it was "love at first sight" ! He was such a kind, friendly, warm, and authentic person. In those 30 years, it was much more than a haircut. It was a pleasure to visit a friend who had much in common with us. I must admit, sometimes I got a haircut when I really didn't need one! :)

We exchanged updates on our families, grandchildren, trips (ahhh, Italy... I feel like I've been there!), and we solved a lot of the world's problems together!

I was planning to visit him my next trip back to Fort Lauderdale, but heard that he was not working and was in the hospital. I was so looking forward to his recovery and hugging him...

Well, know that we really appreciated our limited time together how much we will miss him along with you, your family, and friends. He was a special guy, a friend forever... Love, Bob

We have truly lost one of our dearest friends. We have been so blessed to have had Rocco in our lives for the last 27 years. His humor, kindness, gracious and generous self brought us so much joy and unconditional love. We feel the void left and extend our love and prayers to our dear Geri and their entire wonderful family. We grieve his loss, yet are clinging to the many, many wonderful memories he gave us. We know he is now tending Gods Garden.
