Roderick Scott Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 21, 2009.
Roderick John Scott born November 5, 1931, a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle, died unexpectedly on May 21, 2009 with his devoted wife by his side. Rod was born in North York Ontario outside of Toronto where he attended St. Mike's high school and later earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Assumption University in 1957. He was continuously active in Community and Church affairs whereever he lived and had a special tie with the Basilian Fathers at Assumption University. Rod married Leona (Shanahan), the love of his life, on August 31, 1957. They shared a special love that was admired by all who knew them. Everyday of their life together through their actions and words they expressed to each other how lucky they were. During Rod and Leona's time in Windsor their home often felt like a home-away-from-home for their many dear priest friends who would enjoy cheer, laughter and countless spirited discussions. His working life had them living in several parts of Ontario from Cornwall to Windsor. Achieving a career back at the University of Windsor, his alma mater, he worked as Assistant to the President for Dr. Leddy. Rod then joined Joe Deane at Nicholson Terminal and Dock Co.in Detroit as Vice President of Sales and Development. His passion for the shipping business took him to the far reaches of the globe on every continent. Rod developed permanent and lasting business relationships, and more importantly friendships, with so many very special people who have remained dear friends with Rod and Leona to this day. Rod was a wonderful public speaker and story teller. He would often be on the road for several months at a time, and upon his return there were always stories he would share. You could envision and actually feel you were walking in his shoes in these faraway places. Rod and Leona were very proud to raise four wonderful children and watch as they married and their families grew to include three very special grandchildren who delighted their Grandfather daily. Rod was an avid golfer and lifetime member of Summit Golf and country Club in Toronto. He was also a member of West Shore Golf and Country Club in Grosse Ile, where he took pleasure in the arthritic league and spent many hours enjoying his favorite game with loved friends. Rod enjoyed playing renowned courses around the world and in his prime was a scratch golfer. Beloved husband of 52 years to Leona (Shanahan), Rod is also survived by a very close family, treasured father of Leslie Ann Campbell, Jennifer (Mike) Stoddart, Neil (Janice) Scott and Bradley (Fran) Scott. Proud grandfather of Holly, Rebecca and Ian. Also survived by brother-in-law Leo Larocque. Proceeded in death by his sister, Mearle Larocque.
