Rodney Edgecombe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 12 to May 13, 2006.
EDGECOMBE _ Rodney Wilson 1925 - 2006 Rodney departed very peacefully on May 8, 2006 at 80 years of age after a twenty-three-year wrestle with leukemia. He leaves behind Anne, his wife of thirty years, four children and a multitude of extended family and friends. Rod was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and after serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Navigator, he later graduated in 1949 from the University of Alberta as a Chemical Engineer. He went on to work as a Petroleum Engineer with the Energy Conservation Board (now ERCB) for thirty-two years. Rod was always in demand to serve on community Boards. Highlights included his time with the Calgary Boy Scouts as Calgary District Commissioner when his boys were young, serving as Calgary Section Chairman of the Canadian Institute of Mining of Metallurgy in 1968, and the Chairing of the Petroleum Society in 1969. In 1973, he received the Distinguished Service Award of the C.I.M. and the Canadian Association of Oil Well Drilling Contractors conferred him with the C.A.O.D.C. Meritorious Service Award. After retirement, a favorite pastime was touring with his wife in their motorhome across Canada and the southern United States. Please join us for a Celebration of his life at First Baptist Church, 1311 - 4 Street S.W. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would be most grateful for donations in Rod's name, to The First Baptist Church of Calgary, Alberta Foundation, a registered charity Rod was instrumental in developing to support the ministries of First Baptist, 1311 - 4 Street S.W., Calgary T2R 0X9. "Rest in Peace Rod... your model of quiet wisdom; kindness and generosity have left this world a better place. May we all be inspired to do the same."

Anne and family, I am not sure if you will remember me but I did a lot of work with Rod at the ERCB and had the pleasure of assisting him with his records when you two were married and later with his retirement matters. I think the last time we met was while grocery shopping and we always had a good visit with Rod and with you if present.

We are a bit late in sending this message but we were out of the country cruising from Sydney Australia to Osakah Japan. Took advise from the Edgecombes to travel while we can.

Our sympathy goes out to you Anne and your families. We hope this finds you in good health.

We were saddened to learn of Rod's passing. It was a privilege to have know him during our 24 years in Odyssey Towers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family Anne.
