Joyce, Thank you for sharing that you were wearing mismatched shoes and socks to the funeral. There is great symbolism in that. Shoe is derived from words meaning protection, such as a metal plate protecting a horse's hooves, luck, such as the custom to have shoes pulled by a groom and bride's car after their wedding, and perspective and empathy, such as standing in another person's shoes. I can tell you had great love for each other through all the frustrations of life.

Dear Joyce and Family, I was surprised when the notification of. Rod death appeared. I know you all were devastated by the timing of his passing. Rod was a very kind and very devoted to his family. I know he was a great home teacher and demonstrated his love and concern for our family.
There never is a good time to loose someone we love. My prayers are with each of you . May you be blessed and comforted at this time.

Rodney had the nickname "Sheep" in high school, due to his large blonde afro that was rarely "sheared." I remember Rodney telling me that he was misplacing pens all the time, just to find them when his hair was matted down in the shower.
Rodney was a friend to all. He was always upbeat smiling and especially kind to everyone who knew him. He would light up the room with his big genuine smile and wonderful personality. He is a good humble man without Guile. He has made a difference for many and it will be good to see him again some day, if we can live the way he did.

Hugs and love from Ohio. We met Rod one time and he greeted us like he had known us forever. He is definitely one of a kind. We need more like him in the world. We love you Mike and Kirsten and will be thinking of you and your family.

Rod was best father-in-law one could ask for. He had only 1 rule. Love my daughter unconditionally and treat her like a princess. Words that will be with me till the day I die. The 14 years i got to know Rod were an amazing 14 years. From all the pool time, to him mowing my yard bc he just wanted to play on a fancy zero turn, to taking trips up the moutains, to going to Kirkland OH to see the First LDS temple he was a hell of great guy. We had lots of good laughs and even more great meals. Good golly he loved to eat. Id like to think my life has been better since he entered it. Rod truly will be missed by me and his daughter Kirsty.

Rod was a great friend, mentor and neighbor. When we first moved into the neighborhood and ward, he was the ward clerk. I remember him helping and mentoring me when I was subsequently called to the same position. He and Joyce are pillars of the community, and we love them dearly.
