Rodney Monroe Lloyd was born in Logan Utah, January 24, 1958 and died unexpectedly in Riverton, Utah, December 27, 2022 of a heart attack. As a small child, he lived in Smithfield and Preston, Idaho. When he was eight years old he moved with his family to Star Valley, Wyoming where the family purchased a store in Bedford. He wrestled and played football for Star Valley High School. From an early age, he was one of the workers who keep America moving. As a teen he worked on the farms and ranches in Star Valley, moving pipe and milking cows. He also worked as a butcher with his father in Afton. After high school graduation, he served an LDS mission to Oakland, California.
Rod moved to Salt Lake City where he found work as a butcher until his good friend Ken Jenkins got him on with Meadow Gold Dairy. When Meadow Gold closed he worked at Smith’s Dairy in Layton then Deseret Dairy for more than twenty years until his retirement. He married Joyce Cora Berghout on September 10, 1981. They were blessed with three children, Isaac and Ashlee Lloyd, Natalie and Arthur Dunnill, and Kirsten and Michael Friedrich. He loved and enjoyed his ten grandchildren including, Alison, MaKayla, Michael II, Ziva, Kenneth, Hadlee, Rebecca, Brynlee, Melissa, and Evelyn.
He enjoyed golfing, cross country skiing, and playing with grandchildren. He was knowledgeable in the Gospel and has an excellent memory for people, dates, and events. This made him a trivia whiz and unbeatable at Trivial Pursuit. He had a soft spot for children and youth and loved teaching primary and teen Sunday school classes. When he discovered that two of his Sunday school students were homeless, he immediately took them into his own home. His nephew, Dr. Jared Austin said, “Uncle Roddie was a kind human being and there can be no higher praise than that.”
In addition to his wife Joyce, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his siblings, Karma, Chuck, Paul, and Jayne, their spouses, and children.

Joyce, Thank you for sharing that you were wearing mismatched shoes and socks to the funeral. There is great symbolism in that. Shoe is derived from words meaning protection, such as a metal plate protecting a horse's hooves, luck, such as the custom to have shoes pulled by a groom and bride's car after their wedding, and perspective and empathy, such as standing in another person's shoes. I can tell you had great love for each other through all the frustrations of life.

Rodney had the nickname "Sheep" in high school, due to his large blonde afro that was rarely "sheared." I remember Rodney telling me that he was misplacing pens all the time, just to find them when his hair was matted down in the shower.
Rodney was a friend to all. He was always upbeat smiling and especially kind to everyone who knew him. He would light up the room with his big genuine smile and wonderful personality. He is a good humble man without Guile. He has made a difference for many and it will be good to see him again some day, if we can live the way he did.

Rod was best father-in-law one could ask for. He had only 1 rule. Love my daughter unconditionally and treat her like a princess. Words that will be with me till the day I die. The 14 years i got to know Rod were an amazing 14 years. From all the pool time, to him mowing my yard bc he just wanted to play on a fancy zero turn, to taking trips up the moutains, to going to Kirkland OH to see the First LDS temple he was a hell of great guy. We had lots of good laughs and even more great meals. Good golly he loved to eat. Id like to think my life has been better since he entered it. Rod truly will be missed by me and his daughter Kirsty.

Rod was a great friend, mentor and neighbor. When we first moved into the neighborhood and ward, he was the ward clerk. I remember him helping and mentoring me when I was subsequently called to the same position. He and Joyce are pillars of the community, and we love them dearly.
