Rodolf William Velicky (Bill), 89, of Factoryville died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family in the early hours of Oct. 26, 2017, after a brief struggle with cancer.

Bill was born to Louis and Anna Baca Velicky on June 27, 1928, in Belleville, N.J., and was brother to Helen Velicky (deceased). Bill leaves behind his loving wife, Zora Velicky. They were married for 63 years.

Surviving are his children, William Velicky, Janet Velicky Brown, Michaelann Velicky and David H. Velicky. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Hannah LeVasseur, Connor Brown, Mary Brown and Hunter Velicky.

Bill was a graduate of Seton Hall University in N.J., a member of the N.J. National Guard and a lifetime employee of the U.S. government as a research scientist at Picatinny Arsenal in N.J. He was a duly elected member of The Scientific Research Society of North America. Bill, also, received an official commendation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., for his outstanding research accomplishments.

Bill raised his family in the town of Montville, N.J. He was dedicated to his scientific career and was passionate about gardening and camping with his family. Bill and Zora retired and spent nearly 30 years in Factoryville. Devoted to participating in the life of his community throughout his life, Bill served his parish, Our Lady of the Abingtons, in countless ways. He opened the church doors most days, served as extraordinary minister, as altar server and as a member of the Bereavement Committee. He served the community for many years delivering Meals on Wheels. He visited the sick and those in prison.

I got to know Bill over the last five years. He was a great man, who lead an exemplary life. I helped Bill with his computer endeavors, and he and I would always talk about the important things in life, such as being a family man. I will miss our long conversations, and I will miss Bill. I will always remember his ambition to learn new things, and his writings that he would share with me. My prayers go out to Zora, and the rest of the family.

Mr. Velicky, we love you. Our hearts break for having lost your presence with us. We will miss you. Our only consolation is the love you have shown everyday serving others without getting anything in return has endeared you to Our Lord and He can't hesitate but invite you into His home. We pray for you and your family. Please, pray for us.

With his loving wife Zora at his side; he was and is the best example of a life well led. My eternal thanks and gratitude go to that man whom I have been honored to call Dad. Mary and Connor have been blessed with the type of grandparents that you can really say about, 'they broke the mold....'

Bill, as I knew him, was a wonderful person with a wonderful big heart. He was my Father in law for only 12 years but made a great impression on me. He truly loved his family. And we loved him. He will be truly missed. He touched so many people with his dedication to family! I am grateful that I knew him!
