Roger Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 21, 2011.
Roger Andrew Anderson, age 73, a Houston resident for 34 years, passed away peacefully at Houston Hospice on Saturday afternoon, the 16th of July 2011, while surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Jamestown, New York, the only son of the late Andrew Gottfried and Esther Swanson Anderson, Roger was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Columbia University, where he received his Master of Business Administration. During Roger's career, he held senior finance positions in a variety of industries around the world; including management consulting in New York, oil services in London and Tehran, and investment management in Houston. He was also a private equity investor, an underwriting member of Lloyds of London, and a member of the Board of Directors of several public companies. Roger was held in the highest regard by his friends and business associates for his acumen, intelligence, and integrity.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Holly; his daughter, Wendy Anderson Gatto; son-in-law, Victor Emanuel Gatto, of Nashville; son, Timothy Edward; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Alton Anderson, of Denver; and three grandchildren: Charles Andrew Gatto, Henry Anderson Gatto, and Ruby Grace Anderson, all whom will miss "Bear" dearly. He also leaves his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn Morse and Donald White Evers of Vero Beach, Florida.

Roger's extensive experience abroad resulted in his life-long interest in travel, current events, food and wine. After retirement, Roger was happiest in the mountains of Idaho where he spent his time playing golf, fishing, cross-country skiing, and enjoying the outdoors with family and friends.

The Andersons are grateful for the special support he received during the last 4 years from his friends and caregivers.
A memorial service and celebration of Roger's life is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 9th of September, at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception.

In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memory of Roger A. Anderson may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association , Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter, 2242 West Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX, 77030; the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, Inc., P.O. Dear Holly,
I am sorry to hear of Roger's passing. We had a lot of great tennis matches and I loved talking with him. He had a great mind. I know he loved Idaho as much as I love CO so we didn't get to see much of each other lately but I will miss him.

Mrs. Anderson and family, I'm so sorry to hear fo Mr. Anderson's passing. Although only briefly, I did have the pleasure and working for him. In addition to being such the professional he was so kind. I'll always remember him being the first in the office and (in my early days of starting) trying to make conversation to make me feel welcome. It just wasn't common for someone in his position to do and certainly not expected. It was very telling of him as a person and something I'll always remember him by. May God be with you all during this time.
