Not too many people have had the effect on me or so many other people like Mr. B. I almost missed the opportunity to meet him while at Schenley but he gave me a chance during my Senior year. Working with him showed me what the power of Theater is and shifted my mind to work towards that goal. Mr. B, I miss you and thank you for all youve done for Schenley kids. Rest In Peace.

"Happy Birthday, Old Man! Do you know who this is?"
"Of course, I know who this is...I have Caller ID!"
That was the laughter-filled intro of my nearly annual call to my Dear Friend and Teacher, "Mr. B" Sometimes I would forget to call him, but I never forgot to recall him. I'd think of him often and remember him in my prayers. Today I am packing up my coveted collection of Broadway window cards which I started collecting over twenty years ago. "B" first introduced me to them back in 1980.
His influence on my life is immeasureable. Each time I see a great show, hear a real singer sing, or stand up teach or give a presentation, I think of what his reaction would be.
He would have loved "Passing Strange". He, too, would think Ledisi and her live renditions of "Blues in the Night" and "Yesterday" are absolutely amazing! And he would want me to work on getting better and better at whatever I do.
"Mumble what?"
Happy Birthday, "Mr. B."
Love & Miss You Much,

Mr. B was one of the teachers I will always remember. He was great in a classroom and even better when he was directing the plays. I was saddened to learn of his passing, but please accept my deepest sympathies. However, I will always think of him at his best...providing us all with his unique vision and wisdom. I will never forget him.

Mr B, the greatest teacher in the WORLD!!! Thank you so much for being the inspiration you were. I learned so much from you, not just on stage but in the classroom as well! Thank you for allowing me to be "Gladys" in "The Pajama Game", your confidence in me had such an impact on my life in so many ways. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life even beyond high school, you will always have a piece of my heart. You will NEVER be forgotten! Cassandra

Dante wrote that the only thing that burns are the memories, he wrote that with regard to those who had passed. I maintain that the same stands for those that remain. I've been away from SHTC nearly 20 years and still life amazes me how it flies by. I called my English teacher Mr. Babusci. His wit was awesome, his advise was real, his presence undeniable and everlasting. Those who've the honor of his attention will remember and so his memory will settle and thrive well deep in the heart of the remember whens and peace. Mr. Babusci, thank you for my memories.

Alison,
Your father was an inspiration to me because he was not just a teacher but a inspiring role model. He gave me my first leadership opportunity (as the head dancer) which helped me set my goal for teaching. When asked how I became an elementary school principal, I often name your father as one of my greatest inspirations. He will be missed but he has left an incredible mark on the students of Schenley High School and this world.
My deepest heartfelt sympathies,

There is no one on earth that could replace 'B'. I thank him for opening my eyes to theatre through his Theatre Arts classes as well as serving as a member of stage crew for 3 Schenley musicals. I knew that my job building and painting the set was just as important as those performing on stage. He also served as my homeroom teacher for a semester in senior year when I dropped a class and had a hole in my schedule. I appreciated working next to him and helping him where I could. The last time I saw him I was pleased to see his blue eyes light up and to have him greet me with a hug. He will truly be missed.

As a high school senior, I had the opportunity to have "Mr B" as my English teacher. Being in his class was one of the highlights of my day and one of the few good memories I have of high school experience. I participated in the "Guys and Dolls" play we did in 1976 and will always remember what fun we had. I will always remember him and what a energetic and inspiring teacher he was. Thank you "Mr. B."! --Renee Stout, Washington, DC

Having taken IB Theatre 1 and 2, served as a yearbook editor, and been in three Schenley Musicals, I experienced a LOT of B....and loved every moment of it. So many things bring back crazy and good memories of B--threatening to throw 2x4s, telling us you perform how you practice, and warming up to George Benson. I last saw him in 06 at his last Schenley show, but I could always depend on B if I called back (or showed up unannounced) after I'd graduated. I looked after him like a father (constantly harassing him about what he was eating) and looked up to him like a father for advice. He is truly missed by all who knew and loved him....and as he always said to us, "Only the good die young."

I don't know where I would be without Mr. B! He so greatly impacted my high school experience as well as my life, and I know he has done the same for countless others. Schenley would not have been Schenley without him. I remember in my senior year, "B" had a heart attack and was out sick for months. Countless students were roaming the halls with no place to go because B's office was locked! We were lost without him. Some of us may have actually gone to class for once! haha.
We can all feel lucky and thank GOD that we had the chance to know and love such a dynamic and wonderful person! He was 'Magical'.

I can't even imagine how hard this has been for you. I'm hoping it's a comfort, not a burden, to read these testimonials and to be reminded that you shared your dad with thousands of us over the years. Thank you: so many of us owe a lot of what we've become to his influences.
He was a remarkable man, with a warm and generous heart, and all our love is resonating at his memory here because of love he gave to all of us.

You know how much you mean to me, I've gotten to tell you, you've seen it in my eyes and in my actions, and I'm so grateful for that. Your daughter I hope will draw near to me and I promise to help her in any way that I can. We all miss you, and each time I step on that stage, a piece of you has been with me, and will continue to be with me always. I have a card in the USMail to you, but needed to also do this. I was in the first class that your dad taught; it was at St. Bonaventure in Glenshaw.I was in the 7th grade and it was his first year of teaching! I was fortunate to also be taught by him in 8th grade (English, History, and Civics). I was also part of his first stage production. I feel very blessed to have first experienced "The Magic" long before so many others who are sharing their memories. Those 2 years were the best of all my school years and Mr. Babusci was definitely THE best teacher I ever had. I would welcome sharing more stories with you, Alison. I don't think I truly recognized the significance of the Schenley musical, or of working for a director/teacher like "B" until long after I left the halls of Schenley. I always had dreams of teaching, but because of him, I continue to strive toward being a director as beloved and legendary as "B."
He casts a long shadow in which to stand--but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
My deepest sympathies and warmest thoughts go out to Mr. B's family, friends, and loved ones. And, above all, thank you to "B" for all the confidence and the dreams that he inspired for me and many, many others.

Mr. "B" was our knight in shining armor..He specialized in making the untalented look magnificent!.He was my English/Drama teacher for 3 years and I simply adored him. I got to see him when he was hospitalized I believe in February..I told him he had better make it out of that bed in time for the City Championship game in which Schenley would be playing Brashear. Sure enough, Mr. B was down on the parka with camera in hand..Such a dedicated gifted soul who made all of us his kids for life!..He is the reason I write. He recognized my creativity and vision and helped me to channel them. Even though I was too "shy" (not anymore) to appear on stage for his plays, he never stopped asking. He saw things in me I never realized were there. I'll never forget Mr. B. "A treasured jewel in our lives".
To the Babusci family, my tremendous prayers are with you. You can rest assure that there will be many Angelic musicals in heaven from this day forward.
God Bless all of those who have ever come in contact with Mr. B.

What a loss. What an Amazing person. He did so much for people, for his students. He was at all the games, was our director with his MAGIC, and was an extremely caring individual. He will live in all of our hearts forever. Once on this islan was the only musical i worked with, and building that mountain was one of the greatest memories i have of high school. The people i made connections with made my HS experience as amazing as it was. Thank you Mr. B!

My condolences, prayers and love to the family of Mr. "B". More specifically Alison. Alison were you a pre- teen when we met you? I am really having a hard time with this.
I am from the founding years of Mr. "B"s reign at SHS. From 1976 thru 1980 I attended Shenley. Our scholar class had the unique and favoured opportunity to be influenced by Mr. B as young ( immature ) freshmen and then again as mature, focused seniors( okay not completely). I was one of the students who became mesmerized and coverted by his passion and committment to teaching english, poety, drama, SAT words, life and more. In 1976, we began our exciting Drama Club path and road to the coveted Senior Play experience in 1980.
Our crew had an instant bond, admiration and respect for Mr. B . He was and will always be for me one of my favorite teachers and a "jewel" of an educator. He made a difference in my personal and academic life.
I can say that I loved him as a "father" figure . During our freshman year we had to test him out, he proved to be true and was there for us . For those of us who were in the Drama Club, we had some "benefits" that other students did not. Like, obtaining a "pass" to be excused from some boring class like "French 2' to work on "the play".
He allowed us to express ourselves and mature through the vehicle of the plays. He believed in us in the classroom and in the theater.
During my tenure at SHS, I was influenced by "Guys and Dolls", "Pippin", "Pajama Game" and our most coveted performance for the CLass of 1980, "The Wiz". I served as the student director for our senior production that year. As a result worked very closely with him that entire senior year of high school ( in class and with the play).
I can still see his "fiery" eyes and him beginning to turn red because we were joking around and not being serious about our class work or the play.
I could go on and on but I will stop here. My prayers are that his family, the City of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh School System know that Roger Babusci "Mr. B." is a class act, he deserves the "Tony" Award for High school directors/teachers. I know that I am a more well- rounded African -American woman because of his influence in my life.
Love you Mr. B.

You have my deepest sympathy. Words cannot even begin to express the impact that "Mr. B" had on my life. I am so blessed to have had him as a teacher, director and friend. In his memory, I passed out his favorite candy "Reese's Pieces" to all of my teachers as I shared how important he was to me and many others. I wanted them to know that their work, though often thankless, is not in vain. "Mr. B" will be sorely missed but his MAGIC will live on forever in the lives that are touched by those he touched.

To the family and extended family of Mr. "B",
I cannot describe the feeling of loss that I feel at this moment in time. My deepest condolences to you. I've been involved with theater for 14 years now and it Mr. "B" was the man who started me on the way. He was my first director and taught me the meaning of what it means to believe in what you do onstage and the meaning of passion. He was always full of life and that cantankerous love that infected us all, no matter how red he got or how loud he was. We knew it was love for us and, in turn, we loved him. Let us remember "B" and celebrate his life, for, as my mother said, "He is closer to us now than he ever was"
We love you and we will miss you, Mr "B"

There are so many things that I'd like to say, but it becomes so hard to put into words what you really feel in a moment like this. Mr. B is, always has been, and always will be one of the iconic representations of what Schenley High School is to me. It is such a reality check to see more and more pieces, of what once was basically my life at one point, become more of a distant memory. It makes me so sad to hear of his passing. I will forever keep Mr. B and all of the impact that he had on all of us in my mind forever.

Mr. B was a great Man and Teacher who had an impact on many peoples lives even if they never went to Schenley; if you just came to see one of his great musicals that he always put his all into. In "06" he closed the curtain for the last time but no one let any of the meomories stay on the stage; that's what he called the magic! And because of the Magic he shared with all his students Mr. B lives. He may be gone but never forgotten. My prayers go out to his family and close friends!

Alison - I was saddened to hear about Roger's passing. He leaves behind an amazing legacy as a teacher and director for his students, but to you he was Dad. Nothing is harder than losing someone you love. But friends can help the healing. Please know that you have a friend who cares.

Alison, I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Mr. B was the best Play Director, English teacher, friend and dad to so many of us and he will be missed but never forgotten. From Grease to The Wiz he encouraged us but was always lovingly candid. He was so special and loved dearly. God Bless

Roger Babusci family, you have my deepest sympathy and prayers. I caddied with Roger at the Pgh Field Club in the late 50's early 60's. He was a great guy then and I'm sure he was now. I was from Sharpsburg and currently living in Chippewa Twp,Beaver Falls, Pa. Roger had relatives in Sharpsburg and would visiit them. We had great fun caddying and just hanging around together in evenings and some weekends. Even though he went to Central Catholic and I went to North Catholic we got along really great. Roger was such a terrific guy he was easy to get along with. I lost contact with him about 1963-64 and am very sorry to hear of his passing but I always wondered what became of him and obviously he continued to be the great person he now as he was then. Again, you all have my greatest sympathy and prayers. Sal Naccarato.
