Roger Berman Obituary
Beloved and dedicated husband for 57 wonderful years to Esther Yelen Berman. Devoted father of Ron (Michele) Berman and cherished grandfather of Andie, Zoe and Jonah Berman. Loving brother of Jeff (Jeri) Berman, Brother in law of Adina (Danny) Torchman and Arie (Marsha) Yelen. Uncle of Lee and Laura, Jennie and Chris,Leor and Simon,Yoni and Fara, Benjamin and Adi, James and Tina, Tracey and Yogi, and Dana and Ofer. Great uncle to many. Roger was a committed son and son in law to the late Minette Berman Kassel and Sara and Abe Yelen.
Roger was truly a renaissance man, whose interests spanned across a diverse array of areas. With degrees from Northwestern and University of Illinois, he worked in both science and business, and was always known for his hard work and loyalty. Roger had a constant thirst for knowledge and new hobbies. He collected antique cars and learned how to build and fix them. Upon retirement, Roger taught himself Portuguese and Spanish and later received an MBA in finance from the University of Camias in Madrid. Roger always focused on keeping his mind sharp through puzzles and learning. Roger spent his last years translating inspirational poems into Portuguese and then sharing his favorite poems with his friends and family. Ezra Habonim was an inspirational spiritual part of his weekly regiment. He will forever be known as a kind, intelligent, family man. He will be very missed.
Service Friday 10:30 AM at Ezra-Habonim, the Niles Township Jewish Congregation, 4500 Dempster St, Skokie, IL 60076. Interment Waldheim Jewish Cemetery. Sorry to hear about this, condolences to all the family and friends. I only met Roger once or twice but he definitely seemed full of life.

From all of us at Alden Estates of Evanston, we loved Roger so dearly and he will forever be missed. He had a smile that would light up the room and make anyone laugh. Walking in, he would always be translating his writing to Portuguese which was also so amazing to see. He was a delight to everyone in the building. He will always be our rockstar Roger:) We pray that God comforts the family. Our dear Esther, it was a pleasure to see the way that Roger and you shared your love. He was such a good man and you are such an amazing woman. We love you!

To my dear neighbor Esther, I was profoundly saddened to hear of Roger's passing. The seudot we were fortunate enough to have with him were made so memorable and enjoyable by his warmth, humor, and the knowledge he shared. I admire how considerate he was of other people's feelings always making sure that nothing he said could possibly offend. He would deftly steer the conversation away from politics or other controversial topics to history or other innocuous subjects. I know how devoted you were to him every step of the way, and the deep love you felt for each other was apparent. I pray that God comforts you and your family among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. May his soul be bound in the bond of Eternal Life.

I have so many nice memories of dear Roger. He was such a gentle kind and good person ! There are so many thoughts that come to mind about Roger but the most beautiful is the love he and Esther shared in the life they shared together.
He was always learning and was such an inspiration in recent years. In spite of many health issues, he continued his interest in new languages. The last time we spoke, he said he was translating Portuguese into English.
My heart goes out to Esther and all of her lovely family. My you find peace and comfort in your closeness during this time of change.
