MILLINOCKET - Roger D. Boynton, 85, passed into heaven on March 7, 2016, surrounded by his family. Roger was born in Millinocket on April 12, 1930, the son of Olive and Silas Boynton.

Roger was a loving husband to Polly Boynton for 61 years, and a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Besides his wife Polly, he is survived by his 2 children, William Boynton and wife Katherine of Taylors, SC and Jane McCarthy and husband Mark of Westbrook; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, who were the loves of his life, Phillip Rollins and his wife Aijan, Danielle Pete and husband Dan, Benjamin Boynton, Caroline Boynton, Matthew McCarthy, Garrett McCarthy and 1 great-grandchild, Evangeline Pete. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Atlee Goodwin; sister-in-law, Marion Campbell; sister-in-law, Maryann Brown and husband Carl; many special nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William; sisters, Shirley Goodwin and Dorothy Thompson; and brother-in-law, Ray Campbell.

Roger was a kind gentleman who made many friends and never spoke an unkind word about anyone. He was employed by GNP for 36 years as Company Photographer, also photographing many weddings and family photos. He was a faithful member of Millinocket Baptist Church, serving as a Trustee, Sunday School teacher, and a Deacon for over 50 years. He was one of the 6 original members of the Hasbeens,, a singing group, and right in his glory singing his rendition of "Mrs. Murphy's Chowder!" He loved to fly fish at Kidney Pond and telling tall tales to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor!

Pastor Tim Bossie will preside over his Celebration of Life service at the Millinocket Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, with visitation from 1 p.m. to time of service. Honor Roger by wearing something red, his favorite color. Online condolences can be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, he has requested those who wish may donate to the Maine Chapter-March of Dimes, 136 U. S. Rte. 1, Scarborough, ME 04074 or to the Millinocket Baptist Church Fuel Fund, c/o Cindy Hodge, 298 Penobscot Ave., Millinocket, ME 04462.

I worked with Roger at Great Northern one summer. I would help out in his photography department. He was the nicest man, so funny and kind. When he got a cup of coffee, he would bring me one too. He made a scared young intern feel more comfortable. I'm sorry for your loss.

I remember Roger well from when I lived in Millinocket many years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to run into him a couple of years ago after not seeing him for over 30 years - he was singing at a facility that I manage, and we chatted for a few minutes. Always a smile, always pleasant. Sorry for your loss.

Polly and family

Very sorry to learned of Roger's passing. I used to work with him in the Photo Lab at GNP E+R building between 1968 and 1975. He was wonderful person ever I work with. He was great patience with me to write on the paper pad to tell me lots of tales. I enjoyed learning a lot from his tales and his photography skills. Hey Roger, I still has my 4x5 graphic press camera.

May the Force will be with you....

Mrs Boynton and family, I am so very sorry to hear of Roger's passing. The two summers I worked with Roger and Fulton in the photo lab were among the best learning experiences of my life. What a boss he was! What a great sense of humor! Our loss is Heaven's gain. I just hope the good Lord is ready to sit down and listen to a bunch of great stories. Bless you all.

Polly and family, so sorry to hear of Roger's passing. Roger was a longtime wonderful friend from Jr. High and High School days in the 40's and on into the 50's and a usher at our wedding in 54, weeks before we left Millinocket. We enjoyed getting together and reliving old times with Roger and Polly at our past class reunions and visits to town over the years.

Roger was a fun loving character who along with several other classmates let the good times roll to the chagrin of our teachers at Stearns and parents. We bailed each other out of many a scrape. Roger will join the saints as they go marching in!
