Roger Gridley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 28, 2016.
George Roger Gridley, 69, of Salt Lake City, returned to his Heavenly Father on Easter weekend the morning of March 26, 2016 after a short battle with cancer.
Roger was born Nov. 22, 1946 in Downey, CA, to John Calvert & Verna Waters Gridley. His father's profession as U.S. Postal Inspector, led his family from Provo, Utah to Pendleton, Oregon, then settled in Pocatello, Idaho, where he grew up and met his wife, Marcia Richins. Roger served an LDS mission in the England British South Mission.
Roger and Marcia married on June 4, 1970 in the Idaho Falls, LDS temple. They raised their family of six children, in the Salt Lake City area surrounded by many wonderful neighbors that are life-long friends. In years past Roger loved to play racquetball in the Deseret Gym. He was a jokester to his children, led them in the family newspaper delivery job for over 13 years and honorably balanced his family life with dutiful service in many church callings including Bishop and High Counselor. Roger worked for the LDS Church in the Tax Administration for 41 years, retiring in 2012. After retirement, he was able to devote more time to doing what he loved; traveling with his siblings, children, neighbors and especially his wife. He served as service missionary at the LDS Employment Center. Roger will be remembered for his dedication to the Church and family, his many years of tax preparation and his unique sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by his children; Gordon (Cathi) Gridley, Russell (Lonnie) Gridley, Cara (Josh) Whittle, Eric (Stacey) Gridley, Diana (Brendon) Hatch, Elayna (Richard) Boyd; by his siblings, Bonnie (Alan) Plucinik, Rex (Judy) Gridley, Susan (Ken) Broome, Linda (George) Armstrong; and by 34 grandchildren. Roger is preceded in death by his son John Austin(1971), older brother Tom (1998), his father Calvert (1987) & mother, Verna (2009) .
A viewing will be held March 31 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary 3401 E Highland Dr. SLC from 6-8 pm & April 1 from 10-10:45 am at 1955 W. 400 N., SLC followed by funeral services at 11:00. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Rodger was our Bishop when he called Richard and I on a Family History Mission. We loved him dearly. Now he and Richard are up there together having a good visit. My love and prayers are with you Marcia.
