Roger Hamilton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 20, 2025.
Roger "Dale" Hamilton, 73, of Oak Ridge, TN, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Born on August 14, 1951, to James Richard "Dick" and Martha Elizabeth "Bess" Hamilton, he was the youngest of ten children. Throughout his life, Dale left an in"Dale"ible impression on his family, friends, peers, and students during his teaching years.

Dale will be lovingly remembered by his son, Bradley Hamilton, and wife Erica of Kingston, TN; grandson Jonathon Hamilton of Dallas, TX; granddaughters Anna Hamilton and Whitney Hamilton of Kingston, TN; and bonus grandchildren Whitney, Kolin, and Karter Argo, all of Kingston, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Earl Hamilton, Geneva Bates, Liz Falin, Edna Oliver, Betty Gambill, Eva Baker, Jimmy Hamilton, Nancy Bates, and Barbara Bowling.

Dale graduated from Roane County High School in 1970, where he excelled in both baseball and basketball. He earned an associate degree from Hiwassee College before attending Morehead State University, where he obtained both his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. His passion for sports led him to a successful coaching career. For ten years, he served as head basketball and golf coach at Sevier County High School before taking on the role of head basketball coach at Covington High School for two years.

After coaching, Dale transitioned into real estate. He spent two years at Pinecrest Townhomes in Pigeon Forge before accepting a position with Fairfield Glade in Crossville. He later moved to Lake Lure, NC as the broker-in-charge at Fairfield Mountains Realty-a place he called home for 24 years. Dale thrived in the resort lifestyle and could often be found golfing with clients and friends. In 2017, following Wyndham Resorts' acquisition of Fairfield Mountains Realty, he decided to retire and move to Oak Ridge to enjoy time with family.

A proud lifelong Tennessee Volunteers fan, Dale was known for his infectious smile, charm, humor, and remarkable storytelling. He never met a stranger and often reminded his son Bradley: "Never be afraid to talk to anybody." In recent years, he enjoyed assisting his friend Ryan Roberts by managing music events at various venues and marinas-an experience that allowed him to meet new people on a continual basis, which he loved. A devoted sports enthusiast until the end, Dale could always be found watching a game-whether it was basketball, football, baseball, or golf.

Affectionately called "Granddude" by not only his grandchildren but many who knew him well, Dale will be remembered for the warmth and joy he brought into every room.

In accordance with his wishes, a "Gathering of Friends" will be held at Lola's Industrial Venue (164 East Race Street, Kingston, TN 37763) on Saturday, March 8th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with receiving of friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. At approximately 3:00 p.m., selected friends will share cherished memories of Dale, as well as Ryan Roberts performing a musical tribute for his dear friend.

Attendees are encouraged to dress casually-preferably donning Big Orange for the Vols, or attire representing their favorite team-in honor of Dale's love for sports.

His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.

Coach Hamilton was the best basketball coach I ever had the pleasure to play for. He got the most out his players and could adjust quickly in a game. Had a great mind for basketball.
I am so sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with your family.

B-Rad, Even though I never had the pleasure of meeting your father, it appears that your goodness and amazing personality is a direct result of this wonderful man being your dad. I want to offer my sincerest condolences to you and your family for you loss, but also I offer a smile in honor of what a pleasure it must have been for all those who came in contact with him.

My name is Ed McCall, my Pam and I met Dale in Lake Lure at a time share we inherited. The highlight of the trip was seeing Dale at the bar and golfing with him every year until he moved away. I used to look forward to seeing him every year and it made me sad when he moved. I would still call him every now and then but not as frequently as I would like. He was a friend that will be missed

I am so thankful and blessed to have gotten to know Dale these last several years. He was generous with his smiles and hugs, with his wisdom and through the example he shared of how to remain good natured even when others were less so. He treated everyone with the same dignity. Rest in peace my friend. I'll keep Dale's family and all those who love him in my prayers.
