Family-Placed Obituary

ROGER G. HEURICH Roger G. Heurich passed away on December 14, 2008 at the age of 55. His passing was sudden and unexpected and has left an enormous void in the lives of many. He left behind his wife, three stepchildren, mother, four brothers (one was his fraternal twin), a sister, and many friends and shipmates. Roger was born in Queens, NY to Robert "Gus" Heurich and Myra Heurich. He served 26 years and 2 months in the United States Navy. He enjoyed an adventurous career, traveling the globe to many far away places. He was an initiated chief and retired at the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer in 2003. He mentored many junior enlisted, chiefs, and officers in his long career and has left a better Navy behind him. He was known to all his shipmates as Uncle Buck. While serving at his last duty station in Hawaii in 1999, Roger met and soon married his best friend and wife, Gian. Roger thrived on having a family and spending his time raising his two stepdaughters and mentoring his grown stepson. He was a dedicated parent and amazing husband. He spoiled his wife on a daily basis, always letting her know she was number one in his life. Roger was a huge sports nut. He was an at-home ESPN analyst before ESPN was a network. He was also a great dog owner. His dogs lived a good life with him in charge and now sadly roam the house looking for their master. Roger continued to give of himself in death. His cornea's were donated and successfully restored the sight of two women in Hawaii. He also donated skin and bone tissue that can help numerous other people who have suffered trauma and cancer. Roger was laid to rest on December 23, 2008 at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery. Roger, my heart is broken without you. Although I can't see you, I feel you. You will live in my heart and memory forever. I have faith that we will one day meet again and walk hand in hand. I love you. LOVE, Your Wife Updated on 01/05/2009.
