Roger Lord Obituary
A native of Jackson County, GA, he was a son of the late Linton Odell and Ruby Zeebell Benton Lord and was also preceded in death by a son, Darrell Keith Lord; and sister, Ruth Lord.
A lifelong resident of this area, Mr. Lord was a member of East Athens Baptist Church over fifty years. He served as a deacon and many different committees through the years. Roger was a charter member of the East Athens Civitan Club. He also was a member of the Athens Clarke County Retiree Group. He was an outdoor person – enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially gardening and working in the yards.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST with Rev. Ray Wuerzer officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy McCannon Lord; son, Roger Benton ""Ben"" Lord, Jr.; two grandchildren, Garrett Benton Lord and Zachary Fulp.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Waymon Kelly Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, Attn: Judy Pace, PO Box 6588, Athens, GA 30604 in memory of Roger Lord.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses with St. Mary's Hospice-Olivia, Leah, Joann, Maria and Cathy for their care and compassion.
