Roger Ward Mobley, 85, of Charleston, South Carolina, beloved husband of nearly 55 years to Nedra Cotton Mobley, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 16, 2025. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Tice Community Cemetery in Williamston, North Carolina.

Born April 6, 1940, in Cross Roads Township, North Carolina, Roger was the son of the late Robert Lanier Mobley and Nellie Rogerson Mobley. One of ten children, he grew up in a large and lively family that shaped his deep sense of loyalty and care for others. He lived a life marked by service, beginning with his military career as a proud member of the 25th Infantry, 27th Regiment "Wolfhounds" in Vietnam (1966-1970), where he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class. Following his military service, Roger dedicated his career to education, retiring as a math educator in the South Carolina correctional system.

Roger was quiet and thoughtful, with words that carried both weight and wit. Whether offering an astute observation on life, shouting "yee-haw" at his children's graduations and weddings, or lending his voice to Barnwell High School basketball games in the 1990s, he was fully present in every moment. He loved cheering on Gamecock women's basketball, watching the NFL draft, and stocking up on shirts with pockets. He also loved his sister Ruby Coltrain dearly-especially her famous sweet pickles, which brought him joy and comfort throughout his life. Above all, he loved-and lived for-his family.

In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Cotton (Shawn) Jovingo and Julie Sara (Dallas) Boyd; a son, Jared Daniel (Courtney Kirby) Mobley; and five granddaughters: Macon Gray Mobley, Ellis Lanier Mobley, Milan Saya Jovingo, Dylan Sample Boyd, and Sara Charles Boyd. He is also survived by three sisters and one brother, who, along with his many nieces, nephews, and extended family, will cherish his memory.

Roger will be remembered as a kind and steadfast man with a logical and mathematical outlook on the world. His presence and his love will be deeply missed.
