RICHMOND - Roland L. "Jake" Jackson, 90, of Richmond, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at his home while in the company of family members.

He was born Aug. 31, 1917, in Ringwood, to Glenn and Jennie (Beatty) Jackson. He married Vivian M. (Whiting) on Dec. 21, 1940, in Woodstock. She died May 5, 1999.

He graduated from Richmond High School in 1935. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant with the 73rd Cavalry in the Asiatic/Pacific Theatre. He received a Purple Heart and three bronze battle stars. He was a member and past commander of Paul C. Hoffman American Legion Post 253 in Richmond.

He was a member and former chief of Richmond Fire and Rescue and served as a trustee for many years, accumulating more than 50 years with the department. He also served on the Richmond Grade School board for 12 years.

He was employed as an auto technician at Richmond Motors in Richmond for more than 40 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Richmond.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Gardner of Richmond and Kathy (Dr. Jack) McPherson of Macomb; five grandsons, Adam (Katy), Ryan and Nathan (Jackie) Gardner, and Brett (Sandy) and Derek (Michelle) McPherson; 10 great-grandchildren, Kylie, Lacey, Addi and Brodie Gardner, and Cally, C. J., Lily, Mason, Bailey and Kendall McPherson; a sister, Elaine Christensen of Richmond; a brother, Harold (Sybil) Jackson of East Troy, Wis.; and his devoted caregiver of two years, Mary Lubas.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Gwendolyn Montanya, Genevieve VanEvery and Marilyn Heelein; a brother, Donald E. Jackson; and a son-in-law, Dave Gardner.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Ehorn-Adams Funeral Home, 10011 Main St., Richmond. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the funeral home. The Rev. Terry Dufur will officiate.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood.

We Have moved away, but have thought of Roland many times we will miss him. We had many memories of Roland during our days at the Richmond American Legion. Good bye and we will miss you.
