Roland Ritter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 24 to May 26, 2008.
RITTER, Roland Frank November 12, 1940 - May 19, 2008 On Monday, May 19, 2008, Roland Frank Ritter of Edmonton passed away suddenly, at the age of 67 years. Born in the Calder district of Edmonton to Frank and Velma, Roland had a rich childhood in a loving family. He was a better student of life and living than of St. Joseph's High School, often sneaking out of class to go fishing or hunting. Roland married Marianne Tomkow in 1965, he worked sucessfully in the construction industry and raised two lovely daughters. Roland took every opportunity to do what he loved best, outdoors pursuits, often involving his nephew, Duane Ritter and lifelong friend, Roy Fox. He also enjoyed writing humorous short stories to entertain friends and family. Through his writing, correspondence and his determination, he shared his passion for life and became a true inspiration to many people across North America. Left to mourn his loss is his loving wife, Kirsten; beautiful daughters, Carla (James Boyko) and Andrea (Simon Smith); beloved grandchildren, Aidan and Eric; and devoted brother, Timothy. Roland was predeceased by his brother, Allan. A Celebration of Roland's Life will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at II Portico 10012 - 107 Street, Edmonton. Telephone: (780) 424-0707. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roland's name may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, T6G 1Z2. Roland was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. We will remember him in our hearts, and see him in our dreams. He is forever with us. Roland always brought a smile to my face and showed the joy of being a Christian. He had a most generous heart and gave of himself freeley.

Kirsten and the rest of Roland's family and friends, he will be missed! I pray that each of you finds peace and celebrate the life of Roland.

Kirsten, I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed when Roland came in to the salon and shared his stories about fishing and other adventures while getting his haircut. He will be missed by many because he truly had a beautiful spirit. Take care. You are in our thoughts during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I was fortunate to go on a hunting trip with Roland to Santa Cruz island many years ago. He was a great guy to be with and he always had a great hunting/work ethic. I am glad to have known him and will always remember the week we spent with him.
