Goodbye Nonna, I will always miss you and think of you every day. When I was young and I called for my mother, you came instead. I would say "no, I called for my mom", you replied "I am like your mom too," You were so right. You were my best friend, my confident, and I cannot wait to give my daughter your name. In your favorite poem, Sonnet 18, it reads: "but thy eternal summer shall never end." You will always be in my heart.
Love Alessandra.

Ciao Romana,
qualche giorno prima di lasciarci mi hai detto:"non dimenticatevi di me". Come potremmo?
Anche ora mi chiamavi "la piccola di casa" come quando mi accompagnavi a scuola e mi tenevi stretta per mano per paura che mi perdessi.
Quella mano me l'hai sempre tenuta a dispetto della lontananza e continuerai come sempre a stringermela.
Ti abbraccio. Tua sorella Giusi

Early on after we first met, Mary and I were walking one day along a street in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston. It was a perfect, sunny summer day. And for whatever reason, she began reciting to me, from memory, one of William Shakespeare's more famous sonnets. I knew then I had found someone special.
Well, as I was growing up and beginning to reflect on the world around me, and on those people who made up that world, I soon realized that my mother was someone special. And up until the very end of her life, she would remain, for me, someone very, very special.
And so, as a fitting tribute to her memory, I would like to recite for you now that famous Shakespeare sonnet:
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date;
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Saz and the rest of the Serpe family, we are saddened by the loss of a truly wonderful person your mother. I enjoyed every conversation with her, weather it was in Stamford, Greensboro or even on the phone. She was so generous, she treated you as if you were part of her family. She will be sadly missed. You will all be in our hearts and prayers in the next coming days.

Gene, Mary and the rest of the Serpes -
We will miss your Mom / Nonna. We always looked forward to seeing her on our trips to Greensboro. Romana was a warm and caring person always ready to help. She would graciously share her home when the Pancsofar family beds were full. And who can forget her delicious, signature meals at family gatherings. She was a good friend and will be sadly missed. Memories of her will always bring a warm smile. Love to all.
