Ron Shultz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 25, 2024.
Ron Robert Shultz passed on April 25, 2024 of complications related to lung cancer at the age of 76. He spent his last days surrounded by family.

He is survived by his wife Linda Shultz, his daughter Stacey Tran and son Chris Shultz, along with their families Lai Tran, Olivia Tran, Jordan Tran, Ellen McCormick and Hazel Shultz. Ron is also survived by his sister Susan Shultz and her spouse Keith Sannes.

The oldest of three children, Ron was born to Arthur and Lucille Shultz on July 30, 1947 in San Francisco. He was preceded in death by his parents and his best friend and brother Larry Shultz.

He spent most of his life in Redwood City and attended Woodside High School. Ron ultimately graduated from Samuel Ayre High School (Milpitas) in 1965 after his parents moved the family to San Jose. He lived his last decade in Fremont.

Ron worked as a letter carrier for 36 years, proudly delivering mail on foot to customers in Redwood City. He was always up for a friendly conversation - his favorite mail route was centered around the Sequoia YMCA where his customers were often awaiting the mail and some friendly banter. After much wear and tear on his knees, Ron delivered mail by vehicle in the hills above Portola Valley and Woodside. He objected to the tracking technology employed by the post office because it "took away from good customer service." Ron was incredibly proud to retire from the post office on his 55th birthday. His sash of safe driving award pins was his proudest professional accomplishment.

In his prime, Ron could be found bragging about his kids and grandkids, carousing with his brother Larry, drinking coffee with his retired buddies at the gas station, or having lunch with high school friends at the Canyon Inn. He was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Giants and Warriors.

Woodside Road in Redwood City was a central theme of Ron's life - his childhood home, high school, post office and mail route, Woodside Bowl, home with wife Linda Shultz, apartment above Terrace Realty, and the retired buddies' gas station, all centered on this one street.

I´m proud to call this amazing man my grandpa, looking back on things like this makes me remember why his existence has touched my heart so deeply. He was the most heartfelt, caring, and funniest man I ever knew. The stories were never ending and the love he had for me and our family was unmatched. I worked with Ron at the USPO in Redwood City when I was in high school. I saw him at one of my Woodside High `66 Reunions in Portola Valley (2006)?? He was always such a gentleman. Surprisingly, he has been on my mind this past week I
