I met Ron when his company hired me to produce over 100 music videos for MTV of the Beachboys and Jan & Dean. We had a great time making them and we went on to do many shows together and Ron became a great friend. We had lunch a year ago last October in New York and a day doesn't go by that I don't think of Ron and miss him greatly.

Ron and I never met in person, but we had email contact about our shared interest in a special model of the grand piano: Dutch design, very sleek en made of aluminium. Ron played this as professional pianist, I shared my knowledge about the instrument.
Ron owned this model at home.
PS: about his grand piano, check "Rippen Grand Piano".
Wish his family strength.

So sorry to learn of Ron´s death. I knew him in the 60s when we were students at Elmira and Cornell. I went to every gig I could when he played with the Rachets. He was a lovely friend and a talented man. For years I thought of him every time I heard Dancing in the Moonlight.

Ron above and beyond his skills in finance was a true Renaissance man.
I met with him during his Regeneration Capital period and he was always kind and receptive to my ideas whilst being far junior to him.
I guess the fact that he was so well rounded that made him a very effective business person.
Deepest sympathies to his family.

I first met Ron in New York when he co-founded Regeneration Capital in 2008. This was initially through the lens of a business setting, so I was amazed when I first discovered that he was not only a skilled executive, but that his background included the Beach Boys, the hit song "Dancing in the Moonlight" and his incredible abilities as a concert pianist. Ron was truly a Renaissance Man. I consider myself blessed to have worked with Ron over the years through several more business ventures. It was just a few months before his passing that I happened to be visiting NYC and I had the pleasure of sharing some breakfast and coffee at the local diner across the street from his place on 67th Street. I distinctly remember Ron was sharing stories about his extraordinary life and family adventures over the years and by the end of the conversation he was proudly smiling ear to ear. It still seems like yesterday... We miss you Ron.

I only knew Ron for a short period of time but long enough to recognize that he was a special person. A talented pianist who loved to perform. A truly caring person who wanted to make the lives better for so many people in the world. A devoted husband and family man.
I feel blessed to have known Ron, even if for such a relatively short period of time.
I miss our discussions. Always engaging, always positive, very often humorous when sharing stories about music and sailing, two passions we shared. I am sure everyone who knew him feels the same.
Who can say why someone like Ron is taken too soon. Perhaps it was a debt he owed to his angels who he selflessly called upon to help others. I know in my heart that he is with the angels now. They have gathered him up to be among them and he is truly Dancing in the Moonlight.

I knew Ron for 40+ years. He took me sailing and graciously taught me the foredeck arts. Maybe 500 times out of MDR. And we shared a half dozen crack-up tag lines from our TM, Beach boy and decades after....we were fellow "fatboys", nobody else knew. God, thank you for his humor and way of laughing. His music was a reflection of his even more wonderful heart. He was a blessing.

I go way back with the entire Altbach family. Started with his Dad, Dr. Altbach delivering me. He was our family doctor until I left home at 18. His brother was in my class at school and Ron was a few years behind us. I worked for his Dad in his medical office and his Mom after school and at the Olcott cottage during the summer. We kept in touch all those years through Facebook. I am honored to have know Ron for over 60 years and the world has lost a jewel of a man.

I first met Ron when he an AJ Cervantes were producing movies in Hollywood in the 1980's as was I. Our friendship grew in later years when we were both investors/entrepreneurs and collaborated in several projects. What stands out for me about Ron was his extraordinary character. He was a real mensch. To illustrate, we were both investors in a project that was going through a rough patch; out of the blue, Ron called me up one day and said, "I'm sending you some shares in my own company so that if the investment you made in the other one doesn't work out you won't lose any money." That act of generosity is an example of the kind of man Ron was, way above and beyond expectations. I will miss his wise counsel and great enthusiasm, and especially his contagious optimism. Lifting a jar, as they say in Ireland, for you Ron.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. But there are some, like Ron, who stay for a long time and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever, the same. Ron was remarkable human being; a shining star and one of those people who bring a light so great to the world that even after they are gone, the light remains. Ron is still shining down on us all.

It was at the Hotel Hertenstein, Switzerland when I first heard Ron playing Chopin, must of been about 1975, and the rest is history. Ron had a great quality of heart and it came through his music loud and clear. He was an aristocrat with a folksy charm, and could ignite a room just by entering it. He was disciplined and committed also, and that along with his innate warmth and humor made him extraordinary. Ronny, an incandescent part of you remains forever in my heart. "Fair Winds and Following Seas" as you sail away, and may all goodness and love will be with you always.

I first met Ron in Ithaca 1967 to 69. My friends and I would always go to the Alt Heidelburg when Rons band "The Ratchets" were playing . Great music in a small town. He recruited 3 young black Ithaca high school girls to sing and dance in front of the band. Hard to believe now how good they were. Ron was one of the early anti racists I've met. He always was kind and considerate. I wish I had spent more time with him. Keep dancing and playing Ron.

I worked with Ron during the Rosecliff days. He was one of the good guys! Always a smile on his face, and such a kind, interesting and gentle man. I greatly enjoyed his annual piano concerts and have a recording he shared a couple of years ago that I still listen to periodically. I am saddened to learn of his untimely passing, and send my deepest condolences to Elka and all of his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Ron.

Ron and I worked side by side for nearly 20 years. Amazingly, for all those years, we never had a serious disagreement and, I believe, we grew to love and respect each other. Ron was not just a business partner; he was my friend. Many others knew him simply as a friend, which meant he was your friend for life. No matter what happened, through the highest of highs or the lowest of lows, he was your friend. He was so real, so loyal, so generous, always alive, filled with energy and an eagerness to hear what you were doing. He always wanted to know how your life was going, your business, your family. He wanted to know if he could help make your life better.
Everybody loved Ron, maybe because Ron truly loved so many things himself. He loved business, young talented pianists, transcendental meditation, the piano, sailing, France, Alcott, Zara and Mischa, his friends. And, most of all Elka, the love of his life. We will miss him, really miss him.

Ron´s smile and ever optimistic spirit will be with me forever. He was a late life friend who lifted me and others up. We shared friends, love of music and hopeful business opportunities. We both loved NYC and Ville Franche. We both loved to work and never saw a need to stop. We had great times in both. While we did not share political views, we could easily disagree without being
disagreeable. His love of Elke and his family set a high standard. Sharon and I send our warmest thoughts to Elke and Ron´s family. We will miss a very good friend.

I met Ron in 1965 when we were sophomores in college. He was playing in a Motown band called the Ratchets. A year or so later I ran into him on a crowded street in Paris on Bastille night and spent time with him in Fontainbleau where he was studying with Nadia Boulanger. Years later, living in LA, I drove by the Roxy and saw that King Harvest was performing there and surprised him. It seemed that no matter where I was living, Ron appeared. I miss that feeling of wondering around which corner he'll next pop up. He was clearly meant to be a part of my life. And he was. I'm not a religious person, but maybe, just maybe, I'll run into him again. Fingers crossed.

Friends for too many years to count, it was devastating to learn of his passing...but what a full, rich life he lived and it was such a treat to share so much of it with him and our mutual friends in the music and TM world.

Ron was simply one in a million.
Although I loved his hit song with King Harvest, his Beach Boys work intrigued me.
Eventually I was able to connect with him through Facebook and set up an interview. And boy did I have the time of my life.
After the interview, which might have been the last he ever did, I learned that he was one the kindest and also most honest and forthright guys you could meet.
I´m so lucky to have met and befriend him, even if I was only but a small part of his world.
Thank you Ron for your showcase of how to be a man of character, but also your great music. Fly high my friend and hopefully you´re dancing in the moonlight!

I met Ron on an elevator in New York City because we arrived at work every day at the same time. We then learned that our fathers were doctors and friends in Buffalo and that we shared a love of sailing on Lake Ontario from Youngstown, NY. From there a truly wonderful friendship developed.
I was constantly impressed by Ron's many talents and adored listening to his piano concerts for charity as well as sharing stories and business leads at Old John's Diner. He was a remarkable, talented, and humble man always willing to support a friend. Most important, he was devoted to his wife and family.
All of my sympathy to the Altbach family. May his memory be a blessing.

I had the good fortune and honor to meet and talk to Ron several times over the last 20 or so years when he was spending time in Olcott in the summer. The year he performed with Jim Sansone and his band at the Olcott Yacht Club, He autographed my Dancing In The Moonlight album, and one or two years later the remaining members of his band also signed it . When ever Dancing In The Moonlight comes on the radio I tell everyone that I know Ron. Also his father our family Doctor when I was a child .

I met the remarkable Ron Altbach in 1979 when we were both in the music industry. We became partners almost immediately and took our fist company public in 1983. We co-wrote music, produced feature films, built companies together and shared great times.
Of course, Elka was the love of his life until the very end and became a dear friend.
We have been lifelong friends and partners in multiple endeavors. Most of all the shared good times of partners and brothers.
I want to thank Elka and Zara for allowing me to work with them on this obituary.
I miss you brother.
