Ronald Andreas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 20 to Jan. 21, 2016.
Ron was born July 23, 1934 and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With his family by his side Ron passed to be in the presence of our Lord January 14, 2016.
Ron had a very long and distinguished military career. He served over 30 years as a Marine Corps Aviator. He accomplished numerous goals during his service including commanding a fighter squadron, a Marine Aircraft Group and commanding an air station. He was the Commanding Officer of MCAS Yuma from 1980-1983. His personal decorations include: the Distinguished Flying Cross, Single Mission Air Medal, Ten Strike Flight Awards, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Legion of Merit, and a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.
Even with all his accomplishments, he was a very humble man. He believed in honor, integrity and loyalty. Ron loved his family and the Yuma community. He retired here in Yuma in 1983. Over the years he was an active member of the Caballeros de Yuma and the Elks Lodge among many other community organizations.
Not many people knew that he was a great musician. He also enjoyed flying his radio controlled airplanes, golfing, fishing, shooting, reading and spending time with his family, friends and his beloved dog. There are no words to describe how much he is loved and how much he will be missed.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and his wife Kay. He is survived by his daughter Donna (John) and son David. Memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 29th 2016, 10am at the MCAS Yuma Station Chapel. Details for a celebration of life reception are pending. In lieu of flowers, two of Ron's favorite charities were Wounded Warrior's Project and the Hospice of Yuma.

My ex- husband served at MCAS Miramar CA and Yuma AZ. Colonel Andreas was in charge 1980-1973 while my husband served there. I volunteered at Navy Relief Society and he sent me a very nice letter of reference for employment. I really appreciated the letter. I could have stayed on at Marine Headquarters in VA but stayed only about a year and then moved on with my career.

Donna, I´m so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad, my Colonel. I was his secretary from 1980-1983 and I absolutely loved him. He and your mom were so kind to me. I have never forgotten them and they are both in my prayers. Blessings to you and yours. Donna Wills (Womack)

I knew Ron as a Family man, a father, husband, and friend. I remember one time he came to my house to pick up Donna and my son, at the time about 9, ran to open the door for him in his underwear. When I got to the door he was smiling and I said "sorry but we are a little relaxed around here." Always smiling, never stressed! A Very Good Person.

I noticed Ron's obit in the June 2016 "Leatherneck" magazine.
We served together in VMFA-513 at Cherry Point in 1965-66.
Please accept this brief expression of condolences to a fine Marine.
