Ronald Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2025.
Ronald Newkirk Davis, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, in Lake Orion, Michigan. Born at home on February 7, 1939, in Watha, North Carolina, Ronald's life was a testament to dedication, kindness, and enduring love.

Raised in the rural South during the 1940s and 1950s, Ronald embraced each chapter of his life with integrity and warmth. His early years were shaped by faith and community as a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Burgaw, North Carolina. Farming was also an integral part of his life. After completing military service, he pursued higher education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and Wayne County Community College Detroit.

Ronald proudly served his country with a four-year tour in the United States Navy. His service took him across the Mediterranean and gifted him with lifelong friendships. It was during a 72-hour leave with a shipmate that fate led him to Metro Detroit-and to Kathleen, whom he met on a blind date. Their connection was immediate and enduring. On the day after his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1961, Ronald married Kathleen. Together they built a life rooted in love and mutual respect that spanned more than six decades.

Settling in the Metro Detroit area, Ronald dedicated 25 years to the tire industry before launching his own business-Davis Carpentry and Custom Paint-which he operated for another 20 years as sole proprietor. His craftsmanship and work ethic earned him respect throughout the community.

A resident of Lake Orion for 47 years, Ronald was known for his generosity and hospitality. He found joy in working on his home and yard, golfing on sunny afternoons, driving his cherished 1985 Oldsmobile Toronado, and most especially in opening his home to entertain family and friends. The Davis household became a beloved gathering place for countless celebrations over the years.

Faith remained an important part of Ronald's life. In Michigan, he became an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Rochester. His spiritual foundation guided him through life's joys and challenges alike.

Ronald's proudest role was that of family man. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Kathleen Davis; son Ronald N. Davis Jr. (Teresa Davis); daughter Jennifer Parmar; and granddaughters Lauryn Davis, Madelaine Parmar, and Iyana Parmar.

He was preceded in death by his parents John B. Davis Sr. and Mary Davis; siblings John B. Davis Jr., Kathleen Edmonds, Mary Emily Engle, and William Davis; as well as his son-in-law Baz Parmar.

Throughout his life-as a husband, father, grandfather, veteran, friend, parishioner, employee, and business owner-Ronald lived with purpose and compassion. He believed deeply in being kind and helpful to others-a legacy that continues through those who knew him.

May Ronald's memory bring comfort to all who were touched by his presence-and may we honor him by living with kindness in our hearts. A Memorial Service will be held on July 11, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 620 Romeo Street, Rochester, MI 48307.

I loved my Uncle Ronnie. He had an infectious laugh and a warmth and caring way. Mark and I loved being there today to celebrate his life. Aunt Kathy, Kirk and Jennifer, you epitomize what makes our family so special. I know Uncle Ron is up in heaven with his siblings and Grandmother and Grandaddy. It was a beautiful service. Love you all. Marsha

Ron was a really lovely man who we were very fortunate to have met and spent time with. He is very fondly remembered by us all, and in particular my son Ravi who came across and stayed with Ron and Kathy for a couple of weeks. Their hospitality was absolutely amazing. May he rest in peace.

I am one of the many granddaughters of Kathleen Edmonds, Ronnie´s sister. I feel lucky to have met Ronnie on a few occasions, a couple alongside his sisters. Always sweet to see siblings together. This was a warm and tender tribute. Love to all.
