Ronald Foster Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 6, 2024.
Ronald Joseph Foster, 86, of San Francisco, California, passed away on April 19, 2024. Born on April 2, 1938, in Lansing, Michigan, to Joseph and Louise Foster (Shockley), Ron was a beloved companion, father, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Ron had an inquisitive mind and a colorful personality. He was known for his love of exploring new places, singing old songs at the karaoke bar, and his passion for birdwatching, reading, and hiking.

Ron's childhood was marked by frequent relocations due to his father's government job as an auditor. Because of this, he developed a love of travel and a deep curiosity about the world, which never left him. He had a particular fondness for the culture and landscapes of Mexico. Ron never met a stranger and cherished the time spent making friends wherever he roamed.

Ron was a graduate of Shortridge High School, in Indianapolis, Indiana and proud alumnus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Ron was affectionately known as "Bird".

Ron served in the Army National Guard of Indiana as a Private First Class of the 38th Infantry Division for two years. He was honorably discharged in 1962.

Professionally, Ron dedicated himself to the field of Human Resources at the University of California and later shared his expertise as a teacher and trainer with PacBell and Sprint telecommunications.

Ron is survived by his daughter, Fiona Foster; niece, Susie Tatum (and her husband, Randall), niece, Laura Hildreth; nephew, David Hildreth; cousins, Jim Tucker (and his wife Nancy) and Dona Marie Kwolyk (Tucker), along with their respective families. His life was enriched by the unwavering companionship of Carmen Obregon, who provided him with love and care throughout their time together.

He also leaves behind many dear friends, including Bob Nixon, Peter Guichard, and Neal Ball, whose friendship and support were invaluable to him.

Ron was predeceased by his sister, Helen Kahl (Foster); his mother, Louise Foster (Shockley); his father, Joseph Foster

Plans for a traditional Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of one's choice in Ron's memory.

Ronald Joseph Foster's legacy and spirit will continue to be honored by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
