Ronald Haaland Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 10, 2015.
Ronald Lee Haaland, 67, of Moorhead, MN, passed away in Jesus' arms on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo, after a five year battle with lung cancer. Ron had a powerful strength of faith. To him it was a "win-win" situation of living or dying with cancer. Ron was born on December 16, 1947, to Agnes and Milton Haaland in Sisseton, SD. He graduated from the Pierpont, SD high school and then attended seminary training in Texas. He was a pastor in Alice, ND and small Methodist churches in Texas. Ron also worked at Cummins and Versatile in Fargo. He owned and operated the Haaland Family Funeral Home in Linden, Texas. Ron was united in marriage to JoAnn Ahrens on October 7, 2006. The couple made their home in Moorhead. Ron served with the US Army from April 19, 1967 to April 17, 1970 and proudly served as a medic in Vietnam. He shared a special bond with Doug Koenig as Vietnam veterans and a special bond with Gary Nelson. Ron was a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was known for his witty sense of humor. Everyone that met him, no matter how brief, were touched by his goodness and faithfulness. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Fargo and a life member of the VFW and DAV. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son: Russell; brother: Elroy and a sister: Amy. Left to cherish his memory are his wife: JoAnn; daughter: Leslie (George) Brown of Bismarck; sons: Eric (Stacy) Haaland and Lee (Misty) both living in Texas; grandchildren: Meghan, Xander, Aaron, Arianna, Emily, Alex, London, Meghan and Michaela; great-grandchild: Natalee; brothers: Milt (Margaret) Haaland in Georgia, Jim (Victoria) of Dickinson, ND, Gary (Jan) Haaland of Moorhead, Rich (Janice) Haaland and Roger (Rose) Haaland all of Fargo; aunt and uncle: Joyce and Hjelmer; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins; special cousin: Connie (Garth) Rotramel and special brother-in-law: Wayne Blackledge. JoAnn would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to family, friends, Pastor Dude and church family; to the VA and nurses at Hospice (you know who you are). A special thank you to the VA doctors and nurses for their care, longtime, home health nurse, Sara with ACCRA and all other staff and to VA Chaplain, Lon. Funeral: Later in the spring at Temple Baptist Church in Fargo Burial: Horace Lutheran Cemetery. West Funeral Home & Life Tribute Center westfuneralhome.com

Thinking of Ron and his family today, so hard to believe it's been 4 years since he went to be with our Lord and Saviour! Ron was an amazing man, who was like family to mine. I'll never forget how much he helped when I lost my baby daughter, now almost 24 years ago! It meant so much then and still does today. And I know he helped so many along the way!! RIP and RIL Ron!! Gone but never forgotten ❤

I just now came across Ron's obituary (Oct 8, 2017) and was saddened by this news. Ron and I met and were co-workers at McDowell's Big Boy drive-in which was located in south Fargo back in the mid 60's. I went in the USAF in 1970 and we lost track of each other during that time. Ron and I always had a good time both at work and play. I extend my condolences tom his family.

I didn't know Ron well but he seemed like a lovely man. He was funny and kind. My heart goes out JoAnn and Ron's family. My thoughts and prayers to you all.
