Ronald McLaughlin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 29, 2025.
Ronald "Snoozer" McLaughlin, age 65, of Lawrenceburg, IN, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at his longtime home in Las Vegas on June 19, 2025.

Ron was born on November 14,1959, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, to Dawna McLaughlin (Murphy) and Wendell McLaughlin. A beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, puppy grandpa, and friend to all he met, Ron brought laughter and a rare kind of light into every space he entered. His effortless positivity was contagious & admired.

Affectionately known as "Snoozer," Ron will be remembered for his quick wit, magnetic charm, and often-envied head of hair, and deep love of music. He had an unmatched ability to connect with people and was the original spark behind a wave of Indiana transplants who followed his lead to Las Vegas.

Ron is survived by his children, Landon (Jessica) McLaughlin and Savanah McLaughlin; his mother, Dawna Murphy; his siblings, Robert "Bobby" McLaughlin and Carla Wright; his grandsons, River and Nova; his beloved grand-dogs, Aura & Charlie; and his life-long friends, Nina McLaughlin, Jeff & Patsy Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, Wendell McLaughlin, of Brandenburg, KY, and his stepfather, Don Murphy, of Albany, NY.

Ron had a deep love for life's simple pleasures. He thrived outdoors-off-grid and under the stars-camping, fishing, and foraging for mushrooms. He loved scouring hills for arrowheads, fossils, and forgotten artifacts. Most adventures began with his famous motto: "The plan is no plan." Wherever the day led, he'd find beauty, crack jokes, and capture the moment with artistic photos.

Most recently, his favorite pastimes included spinning vinyl records, sampling craft beers, and discovering hole-in-the-wall restaurants where he was always talking with the staff while catching a game or UFC fight.

Ron spent 28 years with United Healthcare as a Supervisor in the graphics department, where he was known for his work ethic, creativity, and humor. He retired at 50, and embraced the freedom with travel, road trips, and time spent with the people he loved the most.

A celebration of life will be held in Las Vegas in the near future. All who knew and loved Ron are welcome to gather, share stories, and honor his memory.

Ron will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his loyalty, laughter, and the joy he brought to every moment.
