Ronald Emery “Ron” Moore, 66, of Stillwater, died on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, in Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Roach officiating. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born on Jan. 16, 1942, in Fairview, to Emery Moore and Luella (Weinmeister) Moore. He was raised in Canton where he graduated high school in 1960. In addition to being valedictorian of his graduating class, he was also a star football and basketball player. He began his secondary education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Sayre Junior College. He completed his bachelor’s degree in education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He married Janet Razook on Jan. 21, 1963. From 1964 until 1973, he taught American history and coached boys basketball and football at Yukon High School. During his time in Yukon, he completed a master’s degree in education counseling at Central State University, now called UCO. In 1974, he moved to Watonga to take a position as the junior high guidance counselor and head football coach and at the same time operated the family farm. In 1981, he took a break from teaching and he and Janet became the Sears catalog merchant for Watonga. In 1988, he returned to teaching where he discovered a passion for earth science. In addition he also coached middle school and high school football, basketball and track. Many of the athletes he coached went on to be members of state championship teams at Watonga High School. He retired from teaching in 1998. During his retirement, he found a love for growing grapes in a local vineyard. He loved to work with his hands and enjoyed building sets for the Watonga Community Theatre. He was a true “Renaissance Man” and his intelligence and natural curiosity fueled his love for reading and music and led him into many areas of learning and study including genealogy and archeology.He also spent time enjoying his grandchildren’s many activities and traveling with Janet. In 2007, he moved to Stillwater to be closer to family living there. In Stillwater, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, was active in the Methodist Men’s Fellowship and became an OSU Cowgirl basketball fan. He was preceded in death by his father.He is survived by his wife, Janet Moore, of Stillwater; his mother, Luella Childs of Seiling; two sons, Jason Moore and his wife, Vina, of Arlington, Va. and John Moore of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Julie Norris and her husband, Chris ,of Stillwater and Jennifer Clausing and her husband, Clint, of Stillwater; two grandchildren, Katie Norris of Stillwater and Kevin Norris of Stillwater; and two sisters, Anita K. Armstrong of Enid and Terri Boucher and her husband, Roger, of Oakwood.The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in his name to Judith Karman Hospice, P. O.
