He and Jan were active members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

He was an avid outdoorsman climbing the lofty peaks, fishing the pristine lakes, backpacking, country skiing and hunting the High Sierra mountains. He shared these wonderful experiences with all his family and friends. He was an expert gold panner and knew the rivers well. He was also an astronomer; when his house was being constructed, he personally built an amazing observatory on the roof to watch the heavens and take amazing photographs. He and Jan were avid square dancers. He was a Mason and a Shriner.

What a lovely human being he was. I was so lucky to have met him and to spend holidays with his parents when I was growing up (Ron’s mother was my great-grandmother’s sister). My condolences to his family.

"What an extraordinary life that this wonderful man had"
I have so many memories of Dr. Nelson.
I am blessed to have shared the last months of his life. His passion for science and nature was contagious. The first debate that we had was about his most recent research about the causes of extinction of large animals that inhabited the earth. Heaven has received a brilliant soul and has blessed legacy us all. I extend my prayer to his family and friends.

It’s hard to lose a friend we’ve had for over 40 years. Ron was a special person who we shared diverse interests with. He was one who would do anything for you if he could.
To John, Bruce, K-Ray, and all his granddaughters; we send our heartfelt sympathy. We will deeply miss his spirited conversations, his video calls and always positive attitude to mention just a few things.
Sincerely,
Tom and Jeannie Cole

Ron was a classmate of George's. He was a great friend. We extend our sympathy and prayers to his family. We knew his Sister-in-law, Geri Williams. We have lost contact with her and wondering where she is located now or if she is still alive.

Ron was cousin to my mother, Donna Hanson. I always looked forward to the annual Christmas card and letter that he sent each year. He had the wanderlust trait that is so evident in our family and lived it to the utmost. He obviously enjoyed his life and served a higher purpose as well. It is a great loss for your family and for us, the extended family as well. My condolences to all.
