Ronald Stiehl Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 20, 2014.
Ronald Louis Stiehl, born July 1, 1943, passed away at home with his wife by his side on Feb. 16, 2014 following a fierce and lengthy battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and resulting congestive heart failure.

Ron was born in Philadelphia, Pa. He was the middle child of five siblings born to the late Louis L. and Dorthea (Layne) Stiehl.

Ron is survived by his adoring wife of 21 years, Dawn (Anderson) Stiehl; his children, Ronald Stiehl Jr., Kim (Mark) Bowman, Michael (Debi) Stiehl born to his first wife Dottie; Renata (Matt) Faulisi, Matthew Stiehl, Christopher Stiehl born to his second wife Tina; and Logan Anderson; brother, Lee (Mary) Stiehl; sisters, Sandra Whitaker, Karen (Bette) Neiss, Nancy Kaller; grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler, Noah, Taytlyn, Meleena, Devon, Bentley, Chevy, Andy; great-grandson Avery; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, and faithful dog Rider.

Ron proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Independence from 1960-1964. He had several duties, all of which he spoke highly and fondly of. He worked on the ship's flight deck waving in planes, followed by being a naval D.J. bringing joy to all of the sailors on the ship, as well as being called upon to serve in the Cuban Missile Crisis. Ron was especially thrilled at the opportunity to travel Europe while in the Navy. After returning home he worked several jobs before settling in to work at DuPont in Towanda, Pa. for 23 years until retirement. At that time, he joined his wife, Dawn, in the daily operations of their business, Stiehl's Body Modification Station in Ithaca, N.Y.

Ron cherished his family and friends and preferred to spend his time sharing a campfire, a beer and a few good stories at Misfit Acres (his home in Van Etten). He was a loyal friend and often considered his friends to be family. Ron's favorite pastime was camping at various locations including, but certainly not limited to, Assateague Island, Md., Knoebel's Amusement Park, Pa., the Bloomsburg Fair, Pa., and Spruce Row Campground, N.Y.

Ron had an impact on every life he encountered and will live on in everyone's hearts. His memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Faith Bible Church, 72 W. Tioga St., Spencer, NY 14883. Reverend Clarence R, Windnagle will be officiating. On Saturday, July 5, 2014, we will be planting a mighty oak at Misfit Acres in celebration of his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Ron to the charity of your choice. If you don't have one in mind, the family suggests the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the National Veterans Association, or the Disabled Veterans National Foundation.

Ron was a kind man and leaves good feelings with many who knew him. I hadn't seen him much since his retirement but remember hia smile and interest in people's happiness, and being a guest at his wedding to Dawn. I'm very happy she came into his life. I believe both were enriched by their union. Love, peace, and happiness are fondest memories.
